Owen Farrell once again being in trouble for a horrible tackle is one of the more consistent recurring themes of Rugby Union, will be interesting to see what excuse the RFU comes up to reduce his sentence this time.

His last ban for this was in January, 4 games with one reduced for going to "tackle school". :X3:

The world cup is a good reason. We want the best teams and players to compete.

Scotland killing themselves with penalties

Just saw the highlights was it a full strength France team? If so I might have under estimated Scotland and our group stage will be very though if we are not firing

Can you really be a best player if you can't tackle properly and risk putting other players in retirement? Being great at one aspect and a danger to others in other aspects doesn't make you a great player.

If you're not at minimum standards for an aspect of the game. Like a great kicker that can't tackle and you need to accommodate him then fine. But OF has proven time and time again that he's a liability.

Spent so much time in tackle school he's gonna end up at tackle university.

Scotland are no joke. Currently ranked 5th. We ranked 4th. The Boks have made no secret of the fact that they view this as their main fixture of the group. It's the fixture they targeting for the W. They putting a lot of emphasise on the Scotland fixture. And so they should.

The loser of the game puts themselves under huge pressure to make it to knockout stages.

Farrell will be given the Sexton World Rugby royalty treatment. He will play some of the pool games. It is not like he made a youtube video to earn a proper ban....

It's going to be very interesting to see the contortions they go through to give him an easy ride. Sexton was a relatively easy sell, first offence etc..

Farrell is a serial offender whose last ban for this sort of thing was in January. Anything less than a six game ban will make a farce of the process.

Scotland's performance against France has shown that they will be no pushovers. It is of cardinal importance that we beat them.
I feel slightly better that we can beat Wales this weekend. They were horrible against a poor England team. The question is though - how much are the teams hiding as not to show their hand before the WC starts?
Also, no player want to risk being injured. So may not play to their full potential.

Correct on all fronts.

Difficult to know how teams are approaching the warm ups. Local pundits are saying SA had better be hiding lots. There's some consensus they been hiding plenty around the lineout maul, which, if you've watched lately it's believable as their lineout maul has been stock standard and going nowhere.

Scotland, looks like they came out guns blazing. They only thing they hiding is what's under their kilts.

France have lost their star 10 and England their 9. Romain Ntamack and Jack van Poortvliet.

Owen Farrell likely to miss through suspension.

Significant losses 3 weeks out from the world cup. Wales have lost a prop too.

EDIT: Cyrill Baille also likely out for 6 weeks, French prop... geesus, costly warm-up matches...

I understand the need for these warmups but sometimes I feel they just lead to more injuries and concern than necessary. Fans start reading into these things way too much, teams play half and half as not to give away too much strategy or injure themselves, and then the media starts spinning and throwing a spanner in the works. I think these warmups work better for a non-contact sport like cricket. I feel these should be inter squad games to keep fitness up but hey. Im no sports coach and I just watch and drink whiskey so what do I know?

In previous world cup cycles, even in the rugby championships there are some aspects that can only be tested in match conditions, including conditioning of players. That's why they talk about teams being under-cooked, and or the chemistry between players.

There is always going to be a balance between proper conditioning and trying to avoid injuries. Although I often wonder about attempting to not get injured ends up with you attracting injury.

But I, too, am no sports coach.

Yeah, these warm-up/preseason matches are onerous..

Imagine Libbok gets injured? Or Jessie (who is injury prone)?

Our campaign would be f ucked even before it started (some are suggesting it already is).
