The SA Politics Thread Part 3

Because it was how the Interim Constitution dictated that all parties that get 10% and higher in 1994, must be part of the government, for the sake of national unity.

It's not like they explicitly chose to coalesce...

Do you honestly think the ANC would stand by and watch while DA dismantles their patronage/"time to eat" systems, with their tacit support? Yeah no. We see the ANC trying to dismantle uMngeni just over the strides DA made there.

Like I said before, unless there's a true chance ANC/EFF can coalesce nationally and the Moonshot fails, it isn't a good idea for DA to run to ANC...
We are clearly not going to agree, so both the parties can continue doing what they are doing, it's their own choice, but there is one party between the DA and the ANC that suffers the most due to unstable governments, and it just happens to be the party that can least afford it, I will let you guess which one it is.

Private in ANC terms means connected cadres...
I think it would involve a lot of hard work and a fair amount of investment from the private owners, so whoever decides to buy in, connected or not would probably have a clue of what needs to be done.

Like anybody is going to buy in.

I disagree.

Yes, the Bill is kak. But we do need to change how things work now. And the best option would be a directly-elected Constituency system mixed with a PR system (think how municipal elections work).

So, no, direct elections isn't a scam.

Lets say you are an independent and you have your 1 seat. What do you do now?

Paywalled. Seems like ElecMin wants to privatise some coal power stations...

They'll never ever buy into this as an idea, or if they do you know it will be a clusterfsck of epic proportions.

No entity that understands power generation would want any of the stations that Eskom will want to "sell" or if they are on some form of "lease operation" the terms will be atrocious and no company will want to enter into that sort of deal.

Same modus operandi as the SAA deal. Sell it for a song, strip out all the assets then pass on the costs to fix it all to the tax payer/end user.
The power stations will probably have way more value than SAA, imagine all the scrap metal in there.
