Just say that the MK fails to attend the voting of the president and speaker- which may or may not happen.

Will the ANC still need a coalition to nominate the speaker and the president?

Yes and no. No, I don't think the MK has to stay away for an ANC president by default. Yes, without the MK around the ANC still does not hold the majority of seats.

Yes and no. No, I don't think the MK has to stay away for an ANC president by default. Yes, without the MK around the ANC still does not hold the majority of seats.

If the MK don't pitch then the ANC could elect both with the EFF alone and not need another party.

Tl;dr version - this is a "Zuma says" party whose sole purpose is revenge. Without a democratic internal process to elect leadership, and with Zuma having the final say in everything, infighting and jostling for positions is inevitable and the party will tear itself apart...

My view:

DA demands the speaker of parliament and full control of either Gauteng or KZN with its other MPC partners.

The DA agrees to install CR as president and lets him form an ANC cabinet and votes for their budget. DA makes no concession to vote on anything else in parliament it doesn't agree with. Essentially a minority ANC government.

DA Pros: It gets another province to govern, and gets speaker of parliament - high visibility. It also lets the ANC further implode with their inability to run a country.

ANC Pros: It gets to keep all its cadres and corrupt networks (to a degree at least - they will lose a province and 71 parliamentary seats). It still gets to claim any future service delivery victories, if it's able to get any.

The next 4 years are going to be terrible for SA, but even more so for the ANC and any coalition party with it. If they thought they struggled running the country the past 4 years, struggled with tax income, investments and more, just wait and see what happens the next 4 years. Things are about to get real bad for the ANC and there is nothing they can do to stop it. Unfortunately, the same will happen to any political party that goes into a coalition with the ANC and gets dragged down along with it.
