Is there like a deadline for appointing the cabinet? I saw someone posting a predicted list. Would really love to see Gayton Mckenzie as the Minister of Police or Home Affairs. Would be really interesting, I wonder if he would still be doing those Limpopo river runs if appointed MoHA's.
The last thing you want is the state to be the biggest gangster around. Minister of police should be a straight shooting, squeeky clean type that irons his underwear.

I see there's some discussion about dual deputy presidents. My mother is under the impression that pre '94, we actually had a prime minister AND a presidency, was wondering if that could work but I have no idea, can't remember it at all.

*edit*

Minister in the Presidency (the main one, not the other bits and pieces portfolios) is effectively a prime minister. It's just never been used effectively...

Charged but not convicted.
There was no surprise in the fact that Mandela, Sisulu, Mbeki, Motsoaledi, Mlangeni, and Goldberg were found guilty on all four counts. The defence had hoped that Mhlaba, Kathrada, and Bernstein might escape conviction because of the skimpiness of evidence that they were parties to the conspiracy, although undoubtedly they could be prosecuted on other charges. But Mhlaba too was found guilty on all counts, and Kathrada, on one charge of conspiracy. Bernstein, however, was found not guilty. He was rearrested, released on bail, and placed under house arrest. Later he fled the country.

If those in the Rivonia Trial are considered terrorists then the entire South African government up the abolishment of Apartheid should be considered terrorists too.

There were human right atrocities on both ends of the spectrum.
Don't disagree but the question was asked was he ever convicted. Yes he was and even remained on the international terror lists after being made president.

But he wasn't convicted for terrorism. He was convicted for treason...

It's like the ANC is committing suicide.

With the DA things might improve and the ANC can claim some of the credit.

Now they should let the ANC have their final five years. They will end up at like 30% next election.
