Don't disagree but the question was asked was he ever convicted. Yes he was and even remained on the international terror lists after being made president.
It was conspiracy to commit acts of... and not terrorism, amongst other things.

AFAIK, he was on US terror list for his close association with the Soviets. It had nothing to do with the trial in ZA.

Sure Gayton, we believe you have no ambitions to be in a powerful position...

The difference, of course, is your vote share in Joburg did not amount to two MMC positions, while the DA is correctly demanding an equitable share based on their share of the vote. Of course an ex-gangster can't understand simple maths.

Please, this gangster doesn't do Western maths. Only African 30%er maths, please.

Somewhat off topic... It seems terrorism is such a loose term these days?

Not really, ANC was a terrorist organization or arms of it was, they targeted civilians at times. That makes it terrorist. Nats were the same in concept just being in government they had the lofty title of oppressive regime instead.

It is. I think Americans tend to re-define words to fit certain sgendas/narratives. Their Russian counterparts have also joined in on the madness.

I see there's some discussion about dual deputy presidents. My mother is under the impression that pre '94, we actually had a prime minister AND a presidency, was wondering if that could work but I have no idea, can't remember it at all.

*edit*

It actually ended a bit before the end of Apartheid. We had a prime minister for most of our Union history, since we belonged to the Crown, hence our head of state was the resprentative of King George / Queen Elizabeth etc.

We separated from the Crown in 1961 and we had the dual roles for a little bit of time, before it was folded into a single role. I think that was a mistake. The duties of the Head of State and Head of Government is very different and deals with completely different realms of State business.

We should be employing a system similar to Italy, in terms of elections, but with more powers for the President, so more similar to France.

MK was never a terrorist organisation. Their sole aim was to overthrow the Apartheid government.

ANC were declared terrorist organisation in the early 80s for their bombing campaign in the late 70s and early 80s.

It's like the ANC is committing suicide.

With the DA things might improve and the ANC can claim some of the credit.

Now they should let the ANC have their final five years. They will end up at like 30% next election.
That would still make them the single biggest party in parliament.
