We should take care not the conflate the matters of government with the matters of State. South Africa makes it confusing because we only have a single Head for our country. Foreign policy is very much the remit of State and domestic policy that of the government.
We have the same President and the same Foreign Policy and Defence establishment, even though it is a coalition government. I honestly don't expect any change, regardless of how the DA feels.

When he took over from Zuma it didn't count as a term. I'm too lazy to go digging now, but there's something in the constitution that explains what constitutes a term...

Seems to be like an oversight, because you can just do a run-around to keep the same President at all times, except in between first sitting and resignation.All clear to take serve a full second term, no Constitutional question it's laid out clearly.

Now lets see if he can be the first president to complete his second term.
Not with the way the ANC operates after their elective conferences, but then again no Zuma around this time.

I think its going to be a bit difficult for ANC to just make such decisions because for the first time they can feel the real threat of loosing power and also since this will be a GNU, other parties will exact some influence in decision making.
