You sound annoyed, DASO became very popular around Maimane's tenure, so it's not wrong to say he built it, that does not mean Hill Lewis did not do a good job at UCT but you know it exists at many other institutions that UCT, right?

I don't care much for student politics - I never voted in them while at university because 99% of student politicians are just doing it to improve their CV rather than actual focus on improving the student experience. Honestly, national leaders don't really play a big part on how students vote in my opinion. Also, student politics doesn't mean much - according to my contacts at UCT, the SRC is now dominated by the EFF, which is of course the complete opposite of what happened in CT and the broader Western Cape in 2021 and 2019, respectively. I think the EFF gets the lowest share in CT of all the big municipalities...

And during Maimane's time it was DASO who won the student elections in UCT so I don't understand why it's suddenly nonsense that he grew DASO, sound like the syndrome of not wanting to give credit where it's due.

What's the evidence that DASO grew under Maimane? And let's assume if it did grow, can we actually attribute that to Maimane rather than other people in the party?

Basically from my experience, student politics is totally ignored by all the students that are there to do the one thing that matters, study. (Other than those studying in politics fields of course)

We attribute it to him because he was the leader of the party at the time, why shouldn't he be given the credit for it if he can be blamed for the poor performance? Selective giving of credit?
Here's the proof, During his time DASO toppled SASCO in a number of institutions across the country, institutions where it was thought that SASCO was unmovable, Fort Hare as an example.
