CAPE TOWN - Defence Minister Thandi Modise has admitted that the department made a mistake in buying a so-called COVID-19 vaccine from Cuba.
Modise briefed MPs on Thursday on the findings of a ministerial task team that investigated claims of fraud, corruption and misuse of state money.
Parliament's defence committee has lauded a military official, who's apparently since retired, who it said blew the whistle on the illegal importation of the treatment called heberon.
Modise told MPs that the findings of the task team's probe would be implemented.
The drug was imported without authorisation from the relevant local authorities, like regulator Sahpra, under the watch of former Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
The debacle cost government millions.
The parliamentary committee also applauded the department's chief financial officer, Siphiwe Sokhela, who queried the procurement of the supposed vaccine.

But yeah, no one will be held accountable, same with those incriminated and got recommendations to be prosecuted at Zondo Commission, still waiting for arrests or at least charges... The same with those who planned/instigated the July Riots...

More like a side effect of the ANC's failure to deal with crime (or anything else really). So, you now how vigilantes and other assorted populists filling in the breach. Criminals are so brazen that they can shoot at crowds of people, these criminals are now killing city power security as well.

Yup, that's what happens when the gov itself is a dead meme and the police are useless. So as you said, populists, etc fill the gap and make things worse.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will get his hands dirty this weekend in Bloemfontein, leading a cleanup drive at a primary school in Turflaagte, before helping to fix potholes in the city where the ANC was founded 110 years ago. He expects party members and community volunteers to do the same and to keep it up until the 2024 elections.

Nope, Operation Dudula actually makes things much better in my opinion, all the urgency you see with the cops and other government departments responding the way they do is because of movements like Dudula, it's a fact of life that our government goes to sleep if communities sits and do nothing.

They first wanted to dismiss Dudula as just another xenophobic movement but all of a sudden we have cops telling us how many illegal foreigners they have arrested in criminal incidents, when last did you hear about cops arresting people without documents, it has started happening now because of Dudula.

Dudula is doing a good job, they must keep their nose clean and pile on the pressure, this country is ours and we are not going to be ashamed about keeping it clean.

May Herman Mashaba, Dudula and all the people who are not afraid to tell it like it is live long and prosper, Amanda!

Sure, Dudula is bringing this to light, but vigilantism and deaths in their name picking up could lead to xenophobic pogroms and riots. It's a dangerous situation. Gov is always asleep anyway, lol.

I agree with and support Mashaba on illegals tho. We need to do something about them and drop the "good samaritan of Africa" meme regarding immigration that the ANC gov created.

There's honestly nothing they can do once the media and the naysayers sets their eyes on them, just look at all the files the media is pulling on Nhlanhla Lux, there is now a multi pronged attack on the movement, the media, politicians, all the foreigners organizations are on their case, all the incidents that happens will be pinned on him and the movement, facts will be irrelevant.

Exactly what happened with Mashaba and anyone who dared touch the topic of illegal foreigners, it's taboo and we are all expected to look on and say nothing as our country is destroyed right before our eyes.

I just hope they are able to stay disciplined and do what they do without fear until government gets the message, we have no hope in hell of ever getting crime under control as long as someone can commit murder in the morning and be home across the border by midday.

Desperate times calls for desperate measures.
