Hi all.
Would someone be able to help me with my question please?
Skype Mobile - How much bandwidth does it use for a normal Skype call?
Googling and searching here has not proven fruitful.
If anyone could elaborate it would be greatly appreciated.
Just downloaded and installed and will start playing around with it soon.

I don't see any reason why your signal should drop.
Honestly, my suggestion to you would be to move to the latest ROM.
I'm using the latest taril DXIA5 WM 6.1 ROM (Phone and PDA) and I've got no problems, and I haven't heard anyone have problems with the phone part.
To be honest I have no idea. Why not install a GPRS monitor, make a call and then check your data usage? I use SPB GPRS monitor
+1 on SPB GPRS monitor, make a skype call and test see how much bandwidth it uses...
Same here but I do not have any signal problems. Waiting for WM6.5 to go official.
Will wait for the official 6.5 Cooked version.
I might do that when I don't like my phones warranty anymore
,but seriously if there is no official 6.5 upgrade for the Omnia I will definitely consider to go cooked.londonsangel

Strange mark on Omnia Screen
I know this is probably not the right forum to post this on, but its just about the only one not blocked by work, hope someone is still reading this.
When my omnia's screen is off, or the phone is off, thre are the strangest marks in the left top corner. two sets of them that look like a big O with a little o (Oo) next to them. I thought my screen was faulty but it works 100%. And its a bit strange there's the Oo with another Oo just below it, just a bit bigger. Has anyone noticed this? You have to look really hard to see it and without a screen protector. I was worried I lifted part of my screen when i tried to remove that nasty Invisibleshield thing I paid a fortune for. But surely if would not make 2 similar patterns on the screen?

Don't know if any of these have been mentioned, but I've found a couple of apps for the Omnia I'm quite fond of, so thought I'd mention them.
MobiPocket: What I think is an incredibly comfortable and easy-to-use eBook reader and eBook shop. Can use *.txt, *.pdb and *.html files along with MobiPocket's defaults - I have a few *.pdb Pratchetts
OmniaTHREAD: Excellent app for activating and deactivating the threading of texts (I, personally, prefer it off.)
NoData: Another excellent little app which allows you to toggle the phone's permission to use GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA. You can allow it to ONLY allow MMS connections while deactivating all other internet connectivity until you want to use it.
Palringo: IM clients (especially on a cell) are pretty dependant on preference, but after using a few, including Fring, I must say that Palringo is by far the "neatest" and most unobtrusive to use. There's also an option to have your status message be your location, courtesy of the Omnia's GPS. Although, if you use that, be sure to turn off either the GPS option when you don't want to use it, or the force backlight on option in your GPS settings for obvious reasons.
ScummVM: I'm using the Windows CE ARM package download. ScummVM is basically (in case you don't know) an emulator for DOS games. It works quite well on the Omnia, although it takes a bit of getting used to. There's also a thread on MoDaCo with a bit more information, specifically regarding playing games on landscape. From experience, Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island 1, Maniac Mansion, Loom and Gobliiins 1 work pretty well - all adventure games.
Lemmings: I don't know how many people remember this game, but, well, it's BRILLIANT and highly addictive on the Omnia. Apparently there are still some copyright laws regarding this game, so you'll have to find the MAIN.DAT file to play it yourself. It's really easy to find though, remembering that Google's your friend. If you find it, just put it in the same location as you installed Lemmings and yeah, simple as pie

OK, Iv gone through this entire 45 page thread over the past few days. I love my Omnia, I also love customising things, pc's, cars, cell phones and wateva. I havent installed many apps on my Omnia yet, Iv gotten by really nicely with the pre-installed apps. There are however a few problems with my handset, namely:
1. The fone sometimes looses signal when roaming from a 3g area to a gprs area, then I have to switch the phone off and on in the wireless manager.
2. When gps is turned on in the camera, garmin will not open/hangs.
3. When the fone is plugged in with the car charger, garmin cannot locate an address, I plug the charger out and it locates the address, then plug it back in.
4. When I push the start button, it takes 2 seconds or more for the menu to appear, but applications and windows open fine.
5. Any sort of night shots are a no-no.
6. It takes 2-3 hours to copy a movie to the fone, I know this is because it converts it as well, but this is way too long.
7. The fone sometimes freezes, but I guess it is Windows after all. This has only happened 4 or 5 times in like 4 months.
8. The last issue is not handset specific, rather omnia specific. The X to close a window or app is too small, and so are the scroll bars, very irratating. Perhaps this is fixed in a later ROM.
Now I think its time to get a new ROM on this thing, mayb chuck on a few apps n stuff. Thing is, I have the Vodacom JBHH1 ROM, is it possible to load one of the DXIA ROMs straight from my current one? Has anyone with this Vodacom ROM managed to load a new ROM successfully?
One last question, when you load a new ROM, do you need to reconfigure all the settings for MMS and internet browsing etc?

I'd highly recommend at least updating your ROM to the JCHJ3 rom found on www.samsungblog.co.za - this will probably help with a couple of your problems.

Thanks for the tip Nick , but could you be more specific as to where on the samsungblog page the rom downloads are , as I am finding my battery life very short on my Omnia , battery lasts about 24 hours .
My 2 cents.

Card reader is the only way to go if you don't have the patience, or maybe invest in a class6/8 TF storage.

Thanks for the replies..
Im copying 700mb movies via usb, to copy via card reader, i have to take the battery out to get the card out, then put the card into the adapter than put it in the reader. But when I copy the vids using the card reader, they dont play properly, im guessing because they dont get converted..
Will a new ROM really improve camera quality as well?
