The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

@ Shake&Bake - Have you checked your phone's main memory? When you're asked where to install software, do you install it to the main mem, "my storage" or the storage card?

That's all I can think it might be... It's the only one which is about 100 megs in size. Might also be due to changing ringtone a lot and it storing copies of ringtones in the My Documents\My Ringtones folder...

I'm really just thumb-sucking ideas :( Hope it's nothing serious.

I've searched high and low by using the phone's "File Explorer" and deleted all kinds of stuff - I've taken off alll my photos a few weeks ago - but still still the same issue. :confused:

I can't figure out what would be taking up so much space.

I've varied the installation of cabs between the Main Memory and Storage card.
But as you say - they're rather small and can't really have any impact.

So I've also been wondering if there is any "Recycle Bin" :o :D
Perhaps the deleted stuff is still hanging around somewhere - that's how desperate the situation has become :erm:
 
Ok so now I want to install the WM cd, but keep on getting error message and setup won't start automatically or manually.

Even went and got a friend's disc. WTF!!!!!
 
Omnia CD is useless, what you want with that? Only thing useful is the Active Sync.

Your phone's main memory is allocated in 3 partitions (not sure if this is the correct word), your MYSTORAGE part which is close to 8g, you can dump everything on it, your Storage, which is 130MB, which if you decided to install programs on your phone, by default it will go under here, and program, which is like the PC RAM part.

When your Storage gets too small, you get all kinds of errors with Windows. So Make sure you go into Settings, memory (depend on which cooked ROM you have) and check out how much free space you have under Storage (130Mb part).

Go and download Microsoft Activesync 4.5 from anywhere, then you sorted.

Install Active Sync, connect your phone via USB, run the internet connection sharing on your phone, disconnect your current PC's ADSL connection and you can surf with the phone.

the part that uses GPRS to get updates of "notifications". I've used the garmin part for about 6 months now, and in total i've done 3 megs... and i use my Gps about twice a week. so its not that heavy on the data :P

What kind of notifications are you getting?
 
Use you omnia as a mirror.

Use you omnia's front camera as a mirror to check your hair :cool: or to check if there is a bat up your cave :D.

copy grandprixfrontcameratest.exe from the \windows directory to a place more accessible or make a shortcut to it.
(It is a hidden file)

I totally understand why you would do that:eek:. The phone has it's limitations:D and if you can squeeze a mirror out of it. More power to you:p
 
Finally got round to flashing the thing. All I can say is I am blown away by what a difference this is. I have a completely new phone. I had the bloated ROM with all the Vodafone branding, and I am so glad that I am now rid of it.

I first flashed to the latest SA ROM, didnt find any difference aesthetically, but already noticed that certain things were responding better, and easier to use with the finger. I used it for an hour or so, then went straight onto flashing Shokka9's WM6.5 Titanium and Manila2d ROM. This ROM is unbelievable, I am freaking out!

Might I add that PIM Backup did a perfect job of putting everything back the way it was.

Browse your 'Mobile Device' in windows explorer.

Goto '\My Storage'

That folder is where sms and alarm tones go. Anything in there eats up your limited 100MB of main memory I think. So, just check if u perhaps have some large MP3s in there which u might be using as sms or alarm tones?

also check out '\My Storage\Ring tones'
and the root of 'Mobile Device' for any large files in those locations.

You can search for the large culprits with resco explorer.
 
I had the same storage problem a while back. I don't know why but there was 1 file that was causing all the trouble. If I remember correctly it was just a normal mp3 file or something.

First, figure out which memory has the problem (MyStorage, StorageCard or Device) and take it from there.

Park@82 is right though... resco explorer is a must have!

How does one activate this?
 
Once again, I just have to say how amazed I am at how much power a new ROM has unleashed on my Omnia.

My Battery life has definitely increased by about 3 fold, but Garmin can still suck the battery dry in about 4-5 hours, from a full charge.

Does anyone here perhaps know the name and location of the shortcut link to the wifi on/off toggle, or better yet, how I can get the wifi to be enabled at startup?
