The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

pug306, how is the firmware working for you so far? any feedback?

Okay, I was having a bit of fun with the new games on the phone, so here's my report on the JCIC1 firmware:

1. New Widgets: AccuWeather, Yahoo, CNN, Google widgets. However I don't use widgets.

2. New games: Asphalt Racing 4, Dice and the Sims 2. Ashphalt and Sims 2 are installed on My Storage, so you can remove them.

3. New programs: Connected Home (I think it's a DLNA program), Favorite Settings, New Java VM, Share pix (no more Shozu :))

4. When you charge your phone and it's off, now there's a white background with a big purple battery icon to show it's charging.

5. Free videos: Kung Fu Panda and Transformer 1 trailers. Some official Omnia videos which I haven't check out yet.

6. New volume control: No more standard windows mobile control. Instead you get a big finger friendly dial to control volume.

So far I'm pretty happy with the new firmware. No problem so far. Sims 2 and Asphalt Racing are pretty fun to play.

Thanks man, thinking of loading it when I have time. How is the battery holding up? (Its been almost four days and my battery indicator shows that I still have 50% left :D)

Omnia from U.s.

I wanted to know if it is cheaper to get the omnia from the U.S.?
And if so, does it need to be "jailbroken" and unlocked like the iphone?

I've just downloaded it and flashed to the new ROM. It seems JC1C1 firmware is not for MTN :( Its default APN is vlive and the opera mobile front page points to live.vodafone.com

EDIT: after 2 hard reset, now it's back to MTN. very strange

I just downloaded the JC1C1 firmware (I'm on Vodacom) since I don't want to go anywhere near firmware with potential Vodaspam.

So far (and this is probably just me being drunk on new firmware woot) it feels a fair bit faster. I quite like the new firmware... I like the Accuweather gadget, but I don't like the gadgets, so I'll have to see if I'll make use of it.

Thanks for the update, pug306 :D

Just know that the US have the i910 version and we have the i900 (though I think its just a firmware difference) also you wont get the SA maps along with Garmin and I don't think samsung SA will honor the warranty.

Upgraded to the new firmware last night and removed most of the widgets on the side except Accuweather. Have not tried it yet but once I get some decent Vodacom signal will try it out, otherwise I will install SPB weather again and can customize my today screen again.

Your opinion of the new firmware? I still haven't loaded it.

My phone feels faster or that might just be me. Some new applications but nothing really worthwhile. I do like the new favorite settings though. Makes it so much easier to change some of the phone settings.

BUT imo don't do the firmware upgrade! With the previous official firmware I did not need to charge my phone in about 3 days. With the new firmware I have to charge my phone everyday I get home from work.

My phone's battery life is now basically the same as when I bought it in October 2008. :(

That's weird O.o

My phone's still full and that was after charging it after the flash (which was two days ago.)

You should still be able to flash back to the JCHJ3 firmware though...

Sorry :(

So does the JCIC1 firmware come with all that Vodafone branding like the previous Vodacom ROM? That was the reason I first flashed the fone..

I am having way too many problems with WM6.5, and would like to revert to 6.1, but I really like Titanium, can anyone suggest a good 6.1 ROM..

No Vodaphone branding included.

Can you please elaborate on the problems you are having with WM6.5, I have seen some videos and I like the fact that they replaced the "start" menu.

I have only tried cooked wm6.5 roms, Im not aware of any official ones.. These have however been the latest builds which have already been sent out to manufacturers..

Main issues:

Endless issues with data connections. Often when a data connection has been active for a while, I will suddenly be unable to browse or get any data anymore. A reset doesnt help and I actually have to change my provider and then change back to fix it.

The internet sharing also only works sometimes but this is quite often related to the first issue.

Every now and then outlook sort of half pops up, like only half the window, without me even doing anything. I have to close it in task manager.

The Titanium clock didnt work at all, I had to remove it. Every time i started the fone, the clock would totally freak out, the numbers kind of zoom in and out constantly, really weird.

Office is not included, not sure if it is included in the official roms..

I have to reboot the fone about 3 times per day if using it alot. this due to varying reasons, such as hanging, sluggishness even after closing all apps, and other things.

One big issue I have is often when I answer a call the fone hangs and just vibrates!

There are other issues I cant think of now...

Yes.

WMWifiRouter instantly turns your Windows Mobile device into a wireless internet hotspot. Now you can use your laptop and any other device with wifi to get online and surf, email, instant message, and anything else you normally use the internet for!

Are there any instructions on how to do that as I cant seem to get it right (tried various settings) ?

USB Tethering to PC that never stays connected for more than 10 minutes.
Anyone got any solutions?
Been scouring the web for days.
Installed ICS cab (or something like that and not working)

I'm going nuts because of it.
When I used a bluetooth connection it never disrupted, but for the USB keeps bombing out.

Any help would really be appreciated.
