The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Once again, I just have to say how amazed I am at how much power a new ROM has unleashed on my Omnia.

My Battery life has definitely increased by about 3 fold, but Garmin can still suck the battery dry in about 4-5 hours, from a full charge.

Does anyone here perhaps know the name and location of the shortcut link to the wifi on/off toggle, or better yet, how I can get the wifi to be enabled at startup?

Not sure on getting wifi enabled at startup.

But, just use Wireless Manager for enabling/disabling wifi, then it will appear at the top of the "Launcher" menu. Just note that it won't stay at the top unless you keep using it and/or load other applications after using it.

The Shokka9 6.5 ROM is amazing, as I stated previously. Can't think of a better one for the Omnia atm.

I've really got to install a new ROM, but a non-techie like myself is useless...to many degrees. Anyway...

Question:
Anyone had any success with Windows7 and Windows Mobile Device Centre?
Getting your phone paired or synched I mean on Win7?
Downloaded WMDC and going to try it out now.

Hi

Anyone had problems with S2U? Mine switched off or played dead a couple of times during the period I had s2u...
after I uninstalled it, no more problems... I am on DXIA5 rom... plus loads of other stuff loaded...

Alternative, anything available to show the phone is "alive" like a breath button on a Nokia E66?

Have anyone downloaded and tried the latest JB/JCIC1 firmware yet?

For Vodacom users:
It's available at http://www.samsungblog.co.za/downloads/firmware

For MTN guys:
Vista http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/za/subJc_Vista.jsp
XP http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/za/subJc_xp.jsp

Not yet, saw the new vodacom firmware the other day and couldn't be bothered. Glad to see they have South Africa finally listed here: http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/omnia/index.jsp

I am really loving WM6.5, mostly just the Titanium interface I guess. I have one problem tho, internet sharing doesnt work in Ubuntu anymore. It used to work with wm6.1, now i cant seem to get it working. The fone assigns an IP and ubuntu shows that it is connected, but cannot browse or ping out. The worst thing is that it still works in Vista, so now im forced to use vista while on the road.

Do i really have to go back to wm6.1 because of this now. Im using the final 6.5 release from sector, also tried shokka9's rom, neither work, so who knows how long till a rom is released with this fixed. Microsoft also probably couldnt be bothered about ubuntu compatibility.

Does anyone know of any third party internet sharing apps?

After I updated to the first official SA ROM, I then tried to updated to the JBIC one, it told me "wrong version no.". So, I couldn't be bothered working out why it said that, and updated to Shokka9's 6.5 one that I have now.

I would use a search function (resco explorer) to find the file...

Guys, I installed Shokka's WM 6.5 ROM today... maybe it's because he took everything out... but it was RUBBISH!
I may have had to still go and install a plethora of apps to get it up to where WM 6.1 was... but it just didn't impress me. Have I missed something?
I moved from taril's DXIA5 ROM with SPB MS3 to this...

I've just downloaded it and flashed to the new ROM. It seems JC1C1 firmware is not for MTN :( Its default APN is vlive and the opera mobile front page points to live.vodafone.com

EDIT: after 2 hard reset, now it's back to MTN. very strange

Hey guys

Just got an Omnia for dirt cheap, slightly used but the protective film is still on and everything looks OK.

There's some messages and stuff from the previous owner on there so I wanna know how exactly to do a hard reset on the phone...can someone help me out here?

Also, this is my first Windows Mobile phone so where exactly is the main resource for ROMS and updates etc?

Thanks

pug306, how is the firmware working for you so far? any feedback?

installed the new spb mobile shell 3 this weekend and its fantastic. I sadly couldnt uninstall spb 2 so i had to do a hard reset, but the new software feels alot faster and love the new interface.

If u have spb ver 2 then this is worthwhile getting.
