The Shopping Centre Armed Robbery Thread....

Joburg mall action has gone down lots since Cape Town picked up

Do you reckon the two cities' rival syndicates are trying to outdo each other? Maybe there's a judges panel that scores them marks out of 10...

CENTURION MALL SHOOT-OUT AND ROBBERY

Six people were arrested following a robbery and shoot-out at Centurion Mall near Pretoria on Friday morning, Gauteng police said.

"In a swift reaction, Lyttelton sector members averted a cellular shop robbery and stopped a Quantum which was escaping with smartphones stolen from a cellular shop at Centurion Mall today," Lt-Gen Lesetja Mothiba said.

"As a result, six suspects were arrested, three firearms and two bags full of cellular phones were recovered."

Police in the area serving a protection order heard over police radio about the robbery, and saw the Quantum the robbers were using and ordered them to stop.

"The driver of the Quantum stopped and one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and tried to shoot at the police. However, he and another suspect were shot and injured," said Mothiba.

"The suspects had earlier held up staff at a Vodacom cellular shop at Centurion Mall. They then forced the employees to load the phones in two bags and later locked everybody including customers in a back office."

However, the manager of the shop had a spare key, unlocked the back office and called police.

"The suspects will soon appear in court facing business robbery, [and] possession of suspected stolen property [charges]," Mothiba said.

From Facebook, Canal Walk - Century City, happened yesterday:

‪#‎thirdcanalwalkrobbery‬ I was at Dream Nails in Canal Walk last night. Around 8:15pm three big African men (non-RSA accents) walked in and started asking the receptionist about pedicures!! One was talking to her, the other two looked around the shop and also checked out the iFix store across the hallway. When they finally left the store (thank God) i told the store staff to press their panic button because it was rather obvious that these three were up to no good. A good 5 - 7 minutes later only, two security guards that looked like they were on a Sunday stroll came sauntering in - no urgency, clearly not at all phased. You would think after two robberies in one week they would be a bit more reactive? Barely listened to our report, then strolled out again. I unsuccesfully tried to get hold of Centre Management (offices closed) but then the Info Desk got me the Head of security on the phone (or so they said). I relayed the story but again.... no real reaction. Now i find out that Cardies(?) was robbed probably 2 minutes after i left the centre. So Canal Walk - DON'T tell the public to be vigilant or that you are trying to stop what is going on - either your security guards are working with these gangs or you just don't care about your loyal shoppers and store workers' safety!!

Seems like center management/owners aren't phased much about this. Lots of lip service though...

Thank goodness that Bayside is a Gun Free Zone mall. Those gun regulations sure work.

No way those R4000 per month Canal Walk rent-a-cops are gonna get involved in some altercation with armed criminals.

Foreign accents eh?

So who thinks this is one large gang, or rather copycat jobs? After all with all this reporting, other people are thinking, "easy money, why not."

Yes most of these hits are foreigners, illegal immigrants, here thanks to the corruption the anc is so proud of

Looks like a shortage of cable ties. The guy in the pinkish top looks like he is sharing a cable tie.
Perhaps our cops aren't used to catching the bad guys, so they don't usually carry many with them.

Naaah, they just spooning is all !

Maybe they're lovers and asked to be tied together.

It looks like a doggie had some lunch in those photo's too. See the one guys leg in the last one.
