The Sony X1 Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

My only main gripe with this phone is the fact that it doesn't come with a Navigation application that you can just pay and go. Nokia does it - in fact I think all the major phones sold with GPS ability has some form of reliable installed Navigation. I wouldn't even mind paying the license! Very irritating ...
Why not install Tomtom? It is free if you follow the instructions. I can help.

as far as warranty is concerned, yes, it will void the warranty on your phone.

no biggie. if you have hard spl installed, you can just reflash a stock ROM to your phone before you take it back. no one will know the difference.

careful there. pirated software use is not allowed to be discussed on these forums.

Hi marine1

I've just picked up my X1 . Would appreciate it if you could assist me in setting up the TomTom as well? I tried downloading the file but it takes forever. Is it possible to get a copy via flashdisk ?

Thanks

What file where you trying to copy? Install files or maps?

never tried tomtom in my life... very happy with garmin on my x1. why is it better?
seems as if all of you guys prefer it?

sell me

update. Apparently, tomtom navigator is free. so feel free to discuss installation thereoff here. Maps however are not free, and should be bought from tomtom themselves, therefore the discussion of "where do I download the map?" and "how do i use my pirated map" is forbidden on the open forum.

cheers. am checking out TT 7.915 now.

OK noob alert!!!
What is HardSBL ??
And can I install the new rom via the SE Update service?
If not where can I download it?

Tomtom is better mainly because it is more user friendly, loads faster, you can have any voice giving you directions (yoda, homer, buffy, john cleese, nightrider, etc) maps can be updated and customized( you can add POI's and correct map errors), the voice navigations are easierly understood, I do find though that it takes longer to find satellites (+- 2 sec's)

HOPE THIS IS OF SOME HELP

ok the fact that i can have john cleese has sold me over.... ok now to start the
homework on tomtom installation now.

hardspl not hardsbl
the meaning and what it does? who knows lol

hey tsponge

just checked out your link you been following

i honestly cant say i see the purpose in doing that... why backup your rom? if your new one fails to install (which it wont) you aint gonna be able to install an old one. so why not just upgrade

The main reason I want to a backup is for the backup is for warrenty purposes.
So that if the phone has a problem and I am able to still connect to it then I can do a flash back to the old warrenty worthy ROM. What is the warrenty on the X1 BTW ?

I went and previewed the HTC Blackstone(Touch HD) today..WOW exact same spec as X1 except bigger physical screen(but same res), better camera(5MP vs 3.2MP) and smaller battery (1350mAh vs 1500mAh). It really pretty, but I can't see the battery perormance being all to great...

And on a lighter side..
There was a guy there with an omnia and his Charger had stopped working and he has to wait 3 weeks for a new one..Shame...you gotta love the samsung proprietary USB slot.If that happens to us we just charge off a STANDARD USB cord on pc or off any other USB charger. So he has to charge off USB for 3 weeks or not use the phone and heres the catch- He only has a "work laptop" so it stays at work and is either doing presentations using the phone as a slideshow control or he is traveling so he just ditching the phone for the month lol. Says alot about samsung hey ?

lol
