The Tattoo Thread

Hey guys.

My mom wants this done. Any artist recommendations in JHB area (obviously not super expensive please)?

Fallen heroes Parkhurst. They have two studios, FH Black is the more expensive one for more intricate Tattoos. The other studio has artists just as good but have cheaper rates. Either check out their portfolios or email them the design and they will choose the right artist for you.

Dont go to a cheap studio.

Rule #1 of tattoos... Them cheap studios are for them rough and ready types that look like crap anyways
The equivalent of Fallen Heroes in the Western Cape, is Hoodoo in Observatory. The work coming out of there blows my mind and looks equivalent.

Just thought I'd chip in and say I have none.
For me its a highly personal thing. I started contemplating it about 5 years ago and it grew from there, and I am doing it now, before my beloved game franchise is ruined forever by Hollywood, so that I can remember them, as they were before they were destroyed

Got some proper ink done in Bangkok one afternoon whilst drinking some Leo.

Wanted to get more done in Phuket, but time (money) was running out. Mayhem Ink in Bangla road does amazing work.

EDIT: Tattoo studio in Bangkok was Common Ground Tattoo

Metal Machine and Wildfire also good studios in CPT.

Pretoria folks.

Apart from True Blue. Who else would you highly recommend.

Wife is ready for her next but her regular artist at True Blue is booked way too far in advance for my impatient wife.

Not sure on waiting list, but I came across this account on IG the other day - his work looks good. And Charl Steyn, based at Thrasher's Skate Park, guested at Fallen Hero's recently, which in itself speaks to his talent.

Thanks. /added to list

Both of those are literally around the corner from home and office for us.

Will make popping in personally for queries so much easier.

There's also a new studio that opened up on Jacqueline, by that cluster of white buildings that plays host to a bridal gown boutique and some other hipster looking design places... cannot recall their name, so no idea re their work, but also close for you then.

That is just True Blue who moved to new premises from Atterbury Boulevard.

They also opened a coffee shop as part of the Tattoo Studio.

Ah okay, that makes sense. Haven't been in there yet, but I walk past it pretty much daily on my afternoon walks. Do they have a piercist as well, per chance?
