The Tornadoes, Cyclones, Hurricanes & Typhoons Thread.

Not catastrophic this time, but pretty serious consequences:
One person was killed when a tree fell on their home in Ascension Parish, in the Baton Rouge area.
Over one million homes in Louisiana are without power, and Mr Biden said it could take weeks to restore supplies.

The president has declared a major disaster in the state, releasing extra funds for rescue and recovery efforts.
Ida came ashore on the 16th anniversary of Katrina, a category three storm.

Since then, billions of dollars have been spent on flood defences, known as levees. So far, the levees have held, though a flash flood warning is in place for New Orleans.
High winds tore part of the roof off a hospital in the town of Cut Off, Louisiana, just inland from the Gulf of Mexico. The hospital said it had suffered "significant damage" but that its patients were safe.

The 2021_22 southern Indian ocean season kicks off officially on the 15th of November 21.
So far there have been two false starts in the last 14 days. Just don't consolidate enough to form a tropical depression.

After quite a few false starts, the first tropical disturbance has formed in the south western Indian Ocean. Moving fast towards Mauritius.
Edit:/ 11/02:
The TD did not sustain itself and has disappeared.

Looks like Kentucky and Missouri got hit by nukes.

Really frightening in the night:

More than 30 tornadoes confirmed being spotted in one night Dec 2010 - 2011.

Discussed in this thread in the News forum:

Flood damage over Madagascar and parts of central Southern Africa from TS Ana:
Madagascar has seen at least 41 deaths and 100,000 people have been forced to flee their homes to makeshift shelters.

In Malawi, at least 19 people have died. The country has suffered a nationwide power cut and some areas have been declared disaster zones.

Mozambique, meanwhile, reports more than a dozen deaths.

TC Batsirai is making landfall over southern Madagascar today. The satellite image shows a significant eye feature, so both wind and flood damage are likely:
