The Toyota Hilux Thread

Honestly, it's like Samsung vs Apple. The Ford is more innovative, and can do everything the Toyota can and more, and costs less. Fanboys still want the Toyota though.

I like the Ford but I "appreciate" & can understand why someone should take the Hilux; old or new; over it.

The feeling of indestructibility; the immense heritage of the brand; that unbeatable resale.

If is a hard package to beat even though the Ranger; current & f/lift; is a tempting package as a whole that beats the Hilux on a number of aspects.

The KB is a otter option...arguably the bakkie masters. Pity no ESP on local vehicles.

I get a decent salary but don't understand how people can afford these cars....
Cars are way overpriced.
That being said even if i had the money i would rather buy a landy 90.

I'm hear you. @ R400k (now R460k), my XLT T6 Ranger works out to R6-R8k per month depending on how the finance deal is structured. I could never spend my own money on that kind of repayment per month - would rather buy a second Ecosport and use the repayment difference towards a townhouse for rental income. As a company car provided to me I certainly appreciate it though...

Wrong. T6 Ranger (XLT and Wildtrak) is still the only 5 star Euro NCAP bakkie (new Hilux still to be tested). Amarok scored 4 stars...
ESP, with off-road function, on the VW. You'll be far less prone to rolling into a ditch in the first place. ;)

I found a very interesting comparison done by an Australian website between multiple bakkies.

Can be found here

Yeah it will sell like hot cakes, that goes without saying, but its no longer the Number 1 bakkie in SA, and hasn't been for at least 3 or 4 months. The Ranger is outselling it lately.

That' because the Hilux sales have dropped, in anticipation of the new model. Who would buy an outgoing model ...unless they're getting a really good deal?

The new Ranger with its Ecosport type front looks worse than the current one, so IMO, it's sales will drop.

Given the number of new Rangers I see on the roads these days, it does seem to be the preferred choice lately... and most people adore the new Ranger being released and are sort of ho-hum about the new Hilux... I think the Ranger will probably pull out a bit of a lead over the next few months.

**EDIT**

Also the comment you quoted was made nearly 6 months ago, when both the Ranger and the Hilux had new models incoming, so the impact on sales from the new model would be similar on both bakkies.

The upgrade to the Hilux is much bigger than the Ranger, & much more anticipated, given the current one has been around for 10 odd years with some cosmetic changes along the way, & given the no. of hiluxes around as compared to Rangers. I guess time will tell. But IMO, Ford should enjoy their high sales for now...

Popped into Car Mag HQ earlier on.

They had the MY 2016 Hilux before the official launch next month.

This is the 2nd from the top 2.8 Raider model.

RRP's not confirmed by Toyota SA yet.

Looks good in the metal & interior noticeably a step up.
