Love my Ranger XLT. For me, it's about immense family holiday packing space, car like interior comfort and tough as hell to go over any pothole or debris in the road. I could never go back to a car. I came from a 3008 crossover which I loved, but the Ranger is just better for my needs.

This is a big problem, but all cars are affected by big increases now. Financed R390k for my 2013 XLT. Same vehicle now, but a facelift, is R110k more. I would have to buy down if my current was written off :-(

It's not for everyone, but if you like to go places and need the utility a bakkie is awesome. Going mountain biking? Bike in the back of the bakkie. Buying new tiles? Back of the bakkie. Forgot to book a place to sleep? Back of the bakkie.

O and the most important. Want to take your big ass stinky dogs on vacation with you? Back of the bakkie.

Can you really sleep in a double cab though? Isn't the bin only 1.4m long?
 
Ranger and Hilux has more appeal to city folks. When it comes to agricultural use - which is what bakkies where originally built for - you will find KB, Hardbody and even Steed is what gets used.

You would think, but not in our case:

Bought a 2014 Isuzu KB 3 litre extended cab. Within 15 000kms, all loadbody AND cab bolts came loose and had to be tightened at dealer. Power steering pump failed and a new one took 2 weeks to arrive and be fitted.

Every visit to the dealer's service department involved standing in a long line and being badly treated.

We traded it in on a 2015 Ranger Supercab XLS and took a R25k settlement shortfall in the process to just get out of that POS.

Hilux has been the farmer's choice for years. It's by far the most reliable of the lot.

Lemon?

I drove a MY 2015 3L top spec KB on a 4x4 track it felt absolutely solid...anything one could throw at it it took with ease.

Granted hardly a long term benchmark.
