Will We See A 400 HP Toyota Supra GRMN This Year?

The Toyota Supra 3000GT concept makes use of the turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six but in this variant, it pushes out 395 hp (294 kW).

According to a new rumour from Best Car Web, this model may debut this year as a Supra GRMN.

Not only will it get a healthy boost in power, but the Supra GRMN would also allegedly lose weight by incorporating carbon fibre components. Extra body reinforcements would make the model stiffer than the existing one and just like the 3000GT Concept, it should sport a more aggressive body too.

Toyota Supra GRMN with 294 kW rumoured for 2021

Since its revival, the new Toyota Supra has gotten mixed reactions from the fans but the Japanese brand remains committed to its latest sportscar. According to Toyota’s chief engineer Tetsuya Tada, the brand intends to build on the Supra range by adding a more powerful GRMN derivative.

Bet Car Web reports that this decision shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Gazoo division has stated that the GRMN badge will always be used to distinguish a flagship. The new variant will retain BMW’s B58 turbocharged 3,0-litre straight-six but increase the power output up to 294 kW. The sportscar will also benefit from weight reduction by implementing carbon fibre and other lighter materials. It’ll also boast a stiffer suspension setup.

Need some extra oomph? Toyota GR Supra boosted to 332 kW!

German firm McChip-DKR has revealed two new tuning packages for the A90-generation Toyota GR Supra, with a performance upgrade for the new 2,0-litre derivative to follow.

As standard, the Supra’s B58 mill, which it shares with the BMW Z4 M40i, produces 250 kW and 500 N.m of torque. But, thanks to some mild tweaks (in the shape of a stage 1 software optimisation), the 3,0-litre inline-six’s peak figures jump to 313 kW and 580 N.m.

Toyota Supra [US]

Brimming with history and reverberating with the echoes of legends, Daytona International Speedway, where the Toyota-powered and sponsored AAR Eagle Mk. III GTP won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1993, setting a 1:33.875 lap record that stood until 2019, seemed the ideal place for Toyota to launch the next phase of the GR Supra. For 2021, the six-cylinder GR Supra 3.0 models leap ahead with a power boost and retuned chassis, while a new GR Supra 2.0 four-cylinder turbo model joins the line.

The first 1,500 Mk. V Supras were Launch Editions, and for 2021 Toyota is offering 1,000 new A91 Editions. This special edition Toyota Supra will have the 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine and will be available in a choice of two colors, Nocturnal or Refraction, the latter exclusive to the A91 Edition and an all-new color for Supra. Accenting the Supra's concept car-inspired body are a rear black carbon fiber lip spoiler, matte black wheels, C-pillar graphics and carbon fiber mirror caps. The black Alcantara® leather-trimmed interior with blue contrast is likewise exclusive to this limited-availability model, and each A91 Edition will come with two exclusive key gloves and trunk mat.

On the 2021 Supra 3.0 Premium and A91 Edition, the front Brembo® brake calipers are painted red and feature the "TOYOTA Supra" logo. All Supra models for 2021 will feature the 8.8-inch audio touch screen that is standard on the 2020 3.0 Premium model; the base model's 6.5-inch screen has been discontinued.

The 2021 GR Supra models are anticipated to start arriving at Toyota dealers in the US in June 2020.

More Power. Because, Why Not?

The 2020 Toyota GR Supra brought the revered model back in a blaze of speed, with acceleration and handling performance that outshone even its illustrious A80 predecessor. For 2021, Toyota is keeping the pedal down, boosting output of the Supra's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six from 335 hp at 5,000-6,500 rpm to 382 hp at 5,800-6,500 rpm, a 14-percent increase. Torque rises from 365 lb.-ft. at 1,600-4,500 rpm to 368 lb.-ft. at 1,800-5,000 rpm.

The increased output results from a slew of upgrades throughout the engine. The new dual-branch exhaust manifold, with six ports instead of two, improves heat management. A new piston design reduces the engine's compression ratio from 11:1 to 10.2:1.

The greatly revised engine produces higher torque at higher rpm and retains the eagerness to rev with turbine-like smoothness. Toyota projects that the new engine will reduce the Supra 3.0 model's 0-60 acceleration time to 3.9 seconds, from 4.1. The 8-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters carries over for 2021.

35 kW more for BMW Z4, Toyota GR Supra

BMW has quietly upgraded its flagship Z4 roadster’s turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-6 to produce a peak power output of 285 kW (up from 250 kW) and Toyota will do the same in due course with its GR Supra, which, of course, shares its powertrain with the Bimmer…

You can always do with a smidge more power, can’t you? Late last year, it was widely reported that BMW would introduce a higher-output version of the engine in its top-of-the-range M40i derivative of the Z4 range. It was expected to be phased into the global market during the 1st quarter of 2020 and upon a recent visit to BMW SA’s website, we noticed that according to the latest product brochure, the M40i now produces 285 kW (an extra 35 kW), while the motor's peak torque figure (500 Nm) remains unchanged.

The performance characteristics of the motor are a little different, however. Maximum power is now available in a narrower band (5 800-6 500 rpm instead of 5 000-6 500 rpm, but the peak torque range is notably wider: from 1 800-5 000 rpm instead of 1 600-4 500 rpm.

The 255 HP Four-Cylinder Toyota Supra Is Coming To The U.S. In 2021

Last Spring, Toyota crushed dreams of a more affordable four-cylinder Supra in the United States saying, even though the car was certified in California, there were no plans to bring the engine option to the U.S. Well, it seems something changed over at Toyota, as the company announced Thursday that a GR Supra 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbo option is also coming to America.

The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine puts out 255 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, according to Toyota’s press release. Toyota finally unveiled the 2020 Supra at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit last year after an extremely extended teasing period. Back then it was announced that while Japan would get two different four-cylinder options, Americans only had the inline-six engine. Now both be available for us yanks, and both 2.0-liter and 3.0-liter come with the same eight-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota hands GR Supra a power upgrade ... and it’s on the cards for SA!

Toyota South Africa Motors has confirmed the GR Supra is in line for a power upgrade, with the updated model on the cards for a local introduction.

As revealed by the Japanese firm’s North American arm, the GR Supra’s BMW-sourced 3,0-litre straight six will be boosted from the current 250 kW to 285 kW (that’s a full 35 kW or 14 percent more). Interestingly, this extra oomph is offered slightly higher in the rev range (now from 5 800 to 6 500 r/min) and will likely cut a couple of tenths of a second from the claimed 0-100 km/h time of 4,5 seconds.

Toyota South Africa Motors told CARmag.co.za the 285 kW version would be “introduced as a running change” pending fuel quality approval, adding that “timing hasn’t been confirmed yet”.

So, will fuel quality be an obstacle? Well, it’s worth noting BMW South Africa’s Z4 M40i, with which the Supra shares plenty (including that inline-six), has also quietly been upgraded to 285 kW.

I really tried to like this BMW. And in person it looks even worse. I can get pass this thing Toyota try to pass of as a supra. I think if had a different name and was not 95% from the bmw parts bin I could have liked it.

Woohoo! The cheapest Toyota Supra drifts, too

Does a Supra with four-cylinder power equal sacrilege? These pics suggest not

We know you’re craving good news right now, and here it is. The slower, cheaper four-cylinder Supra will still drift. Hurrah!

Toyota gave us all the specs a wee while back, but has chosen this week to release an absolute mountain of pictures of both standard (yellow) and Fuji Speedway (white) versions of the new, 2.0-litre engined GR Supra. And it’s had the good heart to show us the thing shredding its tyres on a race track, a move we don’t see from an awful lot of carmakers in their stock imagery. Almost as if a weenier-engined Supra has a point to prove…

It’s on paper stats talk the talk, though. The 4cyl turbo comes from BMW – as do quite a lot of the Supra’s innards – but Toyota’s opted to only bring the 254bhp tune to Europe, ignoring the 197bhp version to presumably avoid cannibalising already low GT86 sales.
