AH has been running "TESTS" on the HOME UNCAPPED ACCOUNTS for a while Now. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that it is BS. The TRUTH is they shape the accounts so hard every single day in order to keep their Business/Capped users happy.

Why not upgrade to business or try Telkom?

Because he knows better :p

That's right  I'm thinking about packing up my stuff and moving to Connection. You said that they shape only on weekdays <3 That's a huge plus, hey! Would I lose a star if I download like a starved pig on Modise's farm during one weekend? My understanding of how IS' star rating system is somewhat inadequate :(

/waits for The truth about Telkom Uncapped thread...... :erm:

I don't normally download a lot at once, the kids seem to prefer streaming. But I had a large number of stuff on my torrent list this friday, now I'm being shaped like a mother.
Moving to another provider now. This is not funny anymore.

You could have two 2mb Connection accounts and rotate them and still be cheaper than AH :p

Janitor (Plugg, which is similar to Connection, just lower thresholds) explains it best, but in laymans terms, any usage between 6:00-23:00 (7 days a week) will be counted and will affect your stars. 3 stars is the norm and is totally usable like that.

You only "feel" the stars between 8:00-17:00 weekdays when shaping is in effect.

Best to try it out yourself and see if it suits you.

If have often wondered what people have against Telkom.
They have been my ISP for a number of years, and truthfully I have very seldom had any problems with them, less so than with other service providers.
I have tried other ISP's over the years, and always keep coming back to Telkom.
Tried a WISP for more than a year, and every month there were frustrations with either billing, poor or no service, and a lot of other problems.
Afrihost started out reasonably well, except that their fair usage policy on their Uncapped accounts didn't allow much in the line of downloading. Try downloading more than a few torrents, and you find yourself severely throttled. When they moved from IS to MTN these frustrations really got out of hand.
With Telkom I am on a Premium Plus uncapped account, and happily get speeds of around 8Mbps the whole time. There are hardly any service interruptions, and when there are, they are resolved quickly.

In the end, anyone that has an ADSL account is basically also a Telkom client, as you need to have a Telkom line (and account) with another ISP bolted on.

To me, getting my service from the source is better than trying to rely on someone else.

Genius OP. Figured out what we all knew ages ago :).

You get what you pay for. Go the more expensive route (high capped account/business account) if you don't want to be shaped.

Not sure that was ever in question. I'm surprised you didn't know.

Oooh  that's much nicer than I thought :) Can't believe AH moved from IS to MTN. IS was the reason why AH used to be SA's best ISP for a very long time.

TI are great IMO. I set my torrents between 00:00 and 06:00 and they fly along. Other than that my line usually always runs at full speed. I average between 70-110GB per month on a 2mbps line.
