The truth about Openweb

BUT... OpenWeb never throttles remember.
OpenWeb do not track usage, remember.

/meh

If they said that its a bit daft, considering you can see it on your account page. Could be IS throttling. In any case I and my friend have OW accounts with no issues and standard usage.

Thanks.

People are downloading 1.2TB and wondering why they're being throttled. :erm:

Is that the unshared total?

Besides a household, on a 10Mbs line, of about 4 or 5 people, browsing, streaming, gaming, Steam updates, and 720p Linux distros, can quite easily reach those amounts.

This should be considered normal usage and not classed as "bandwidth hogs".

You fail to realize you live in South Africa. Don't you know that uncapped is defined as soft capped?

This has got as much logic as having a fancy car, but once you have travelled for more than 50 kilometres in a day, you are limited to travelling at 10Km/hr.

Actually the logic is sound and it has been echoed by these uncapped providers. Its called the AUP. Perhaps educate yourself a bit.

That is completely besides the point, people are getting shaped to the ground regardless of how much they download. You seriously need to read more in order to understand the problems.

Have you worked from your OpenWeb home ADSL connection during office hours regularly during the past year? Or do you work at an office away from home?

On the days im at home, my account performs perfectly fine. My SO is at home more often than myself and she never complains of problems, she plays wow and streams at the same time no issues at all. I have currently used in the region of about 40gb this month and no issues.

Then you're extremely lucky and must be on one of the 'nice' IS accounts. I was on one of these after I kicked up a fuss after Keoma lied to me about my previous account authenticating on his side, which it didn't authenticate on mine and 3 others' sides. We all know that some people have these special accounts which do work quite well.

90% of accounts have been ****ed during hours for the past year or so. We all know this. Read the forum, Facebook, HelloPeter, etc.

That you are discounting the incredibly deep set problems hundreds have reported on over months and months is laughable. You are supporting a dishonest company, bottom line.

Gave my 1 month notice and abandoned ship end of May. BEST decision ever! Last 13 days the new ISP has been a dream!

Lol. Oh noes.

I only stumbled across this thread yesterday. I never once said the stuff you people are experiencing is untrue, so you can pull that carrot out your arse. Fact remains, i and a few other people i know are not having issues. So why should i jump ship when my account is performing in the desired factors of my requirements. Afrihost is the biggest joke of an ISP as is Axxess. I'd rather stick with OW than those pieces of ****. You think Ow support is bad, you have not had bad until you've had Afrihost bad.

I never said you should jump ship. Just know that you are supporting a dishonest and fraudulent company and that there are better options from real ISPs out there than what you have.

I'm affiliated with Afrihost in no way bar a free 1GB capped account. One hardly needs support when you have a functional (incredible) client zone/control panel, or a phone number that actually lands you with help, or outgoing and knowledgeable reps on the forum and social media. OpenWeb has fuggall. Only email support, and a pisswilly secretary who promises an 'engineer' will phone you back and never does.

Well point me in the direction of a better provider.... oh wait there is not one. So we're doomed.

I sense a bit of Stockholm syndrome. :D

Really, the fact that you think there is not a better provider out there, is so telling of how mis/uninformed you are. I'm sure if you created a thread, many would love to assist.

What exactly makes openweb better than afrihost and axxess? I really want to know, other than them switching you to a different account if your current one is slow.

Yes stockholm syndrome indeed. I've jumped more ISP's in my life time than you've most likely heard of. I am the first person to complain usually and cancel within a day of being unhappy.

Afrihost - No
Mweb - No
Cybersmart - No
Axxess - No
Plugg - Maybe
Crystal - Maybe.

Perhaps i missed a few.

FYI having a different address on cipro does not make it fraudulent. Companies change addresses and cipro take forever to update (i know they have not even updated my address, after submitting a document a year ago).

Go read it again, because you diluted half the sentence in your mind.

I was referring to the support team from Afrihost. They are beyond shocking.

All of those are great ISPs. Afrihost and Axxess offer excellent unshaped business accounts (the same MTN Business ones) cheaper than OpenWeb. What on earth do you need support for anyway? Dude, you're an OpenWeb defender. One vs hundreds on this forum. I cannot take you seriously, and I won't be engaging with you further. But I am glad you have had a good experience, and there's no reason to jump ship other than you're supporting an unscrupulous company.

If semaphore is so happy, why is he vehemently defending OW and not happily and quietly consuming? For each ISP out there you will find an unhappy customer. None will be perfect but currently the scales are not in favour of OW no matter how much you kick and scream semaphore. The worms coming out of the woodwork.
