And for all you goodie-two-shoes who will have a problem with this post, suig my kaaskrul sideways.
I am gatvol of this oh-thank-you-my-lords-isp-gods-that-are-shafting-us-in-the-new-south-africa.
It sounds like you are not very clear about what is possible. They can prioritise or de-prioritise anything they want based on any protocol they like. They can even make Speedtest.net reflect super speeds whilst giving us nothing. This is what people are finding out about Mweb. They are so keen on shaving bandwidth that they are pressing buttons so much and manipulating things that it is extremely unstable and unpredictable for customers.Let them blame whoever they want to, just because they not maxing out download speeds they come talking all kinds of crap about http shaping etc.
Most of us here know Mweb don't shape http, but as soon as some one gets a slow download these days they straight away turn around and blame it on shaping.
Let me just put you on track here Linoman & Semaphore - It is IMPOSSIBLE to shape HTTP protocol as that would render ALL HTTP downloads shaped and this would breach Mweb's SLA with regards to providing us a 4MBps adsl connection - as we would no longer get 4MBps speeds at anytime. They would have a massive full scale war on their hands if they were to try shape the HTTP protocol as a whole.
So by now you're either disagreeing with me, or you're scratching your heads saying but how do they know what HTTP traffic to shape then? How do they effectively shape this and not that - traffic based on the HTTP protocol. This I'm not going to tell you - this you can & should be able to figure out on your own, considering you guys both think you know what YOU'RE talking about.
Uhm You do realise, That Hotfile and Rapidshare has speed restrictions on free accounts.
Its not always the most stable service.

The service is shaped, certainly it is. However the depth of shaping is very aggressive. They also degrade RS (and clones), P2P, Streaming, Games, Skype and anything they regard as affecting simple browsing on their very very narrow bandwidth.
Believe what you like
They cannot shape the entire http protocol (of course technically they can), but if they did, there accounts wouldn't be 4mbps adsl accounts. They would be whatever speed http is being shaped at...
I don't think you understand how it works![]()
Downloading via Steam, downloaded both Shattered Horizon at MAX 150KB/s and now Supreme Commander 2 and getting 150KB MAX.
<snip>
mmm thats why my downloads run full speed 24/7![]()
My grandmothers internet also runs full speed , but she thinks thats because she switched the TV off.
It's kinda amazing how few people have grasped the IMMENSE difference between shaping and throttling here even though so many have tried to explain it to them. I'd dare go as far as to say shaping and throttling shouldn't be used in the same sentence.............but then I'd just be a hypocrite.
