The VW Caddy Thread

Interesting read, my first car was a 2000 Ford Bantam 1600i with 77kw. The non fuel injected unit has less power than the 1.6 Caddy above, 60kw VS 63kw.

Why is this first time I'm seeing this thread?

I do, in fact, own a 2010 Caddy...that I've never actually driven...

Volkswagen reveals Caddy PanAmericana with ‘rugged’ makeover

The Volkswagen Caddy PanAmericana, revealed in Germany on Friday, is a more ‘rugged’ version of the company’s latest-generation, MQB-based compact van range.

Set to replace the previous Caddy AllTrack, the Caddy PanAmericana was built for “light off-road terrain” and in the mould of the modern crossover, it does boast a tougher look thanks to its front and rear underbody protection as well as side body guards, roof rails and glazed 17-inch alloy wheels. Also setting it apart is a body coloured bar in the grille, with no frills or chrome, and ‘PanAmericana’ lettering, which you’ll also find on the sliding door track and on the tailgate.

The Caddy PanAmericana is available in short-wheelbase guise only, but buyers can choose between a passenger-oriented version based on the Caddy Life and a Cargo Van. Engine choices include a 1-litre TSI turbopetrol with 84 kW or a TDI turbodiesel in 75 kW and 90 kW guises. Depending on the engine selected, buyers can opt for front-wheel drive with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearbox, or a six-speed manual paired with 4Motion all-wheel drive.

Cabin appointments include distinctive ‘Pinestripe’ seat covers, alloy look pedals, silver tread plates, door panel garnishes and PanAmericana wording on the floor mats.

I like the front view - The side view is too French and the rear view too Fordy ..

PanAmericana Caddy isn’t an AMG

A name used by Ferrari and AMG, now comes to…Volkswagen.

If a Kombi or Caravelle is too big for your garage or parking space, the Caddy has always been VW’s smaller, but capable, alternative.

For those families who like the idea of a proper minivan, instead of a crossover, the Caddy is a vehicle without many rivals. VW realises that crossovers are popular and to ensure its van customers remain loyal, it has developed a trick variant of the new Caddy, that looks – you guessed it – more like a crossover.

The grandly named Caddy PanAmericana is effectively the replacement of VW’s AllTrack. It follows the same showy design principles with LED lights, roof rails and bit-tone 17-inch alloys that definitely don’t want to see gravel road use.

Strangely, VW has added colour coded plastic cladding to the bumpers, wheel arches and sills. Theoretically, that could lessen stone ship damage and make it better for gravel road use.

Cabin architecture and design upgrades include pinstripe seat covers, metal pedals and PanAmericana badges. Instrumentation is digitized and you interface with the infotainment system via a 10-inch touchscreen.

CAR REVIEW

Volkswagen Caddy

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?

“A quiet-riding, untaxing driving experience teamed with a solidly built cabin and a commendable range of powertrains”

VW’s been selling the Caddy in the UK since the early 1980s, so it knows what its customers are after by now. What those customers might not be ready for this time is just how civilised and comfortable the new Caddy is.

The move to the MQB platform, along with a totally redesigned rear axle and new front and rear suspension has resulted in a vehicle which would genuinely embarrass a few German and Japanese hatchbacks, saloons and crossovers when it comes to proper road manners.

We’re not talking about Rolls-Royce levels of squidge here, but a quiet-riding, untaxing driving experience – when teamed with a solidly built cabin and a commendable range of powertrains – goes a long way to making life (and work) in the Caddy pretty agreeable. The Golf of vans? More so than ever.

1984 Volkswagen Caddy bakkie goes up for auction in the USA

A 1984 Volkswagen Caddy bakkie has been listed on Bring a Trailer with a number of unique customisations made to the powertrain and design. The American-spec model is expected to fetch a bid of over $4 000 (approximately R57 000).

Known in its local region as the Rabbit, this Volkswagen Caddy has been fitted with a DOHC 16-valve 1,8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine sourced from a Scirocco of the same era. This unit benefits from a Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection system and delivers power to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. Just over 164 000 km has been covered by this engine.

The Volkswagen Caddy is finished in Royal Red which is accentuated by a set of 14-inch snowflake wheels and a custom suspension that uses a set of Bilstein front shocks with Neuspeed coils, adjustable rear Koni shocks and an H&H sway bar. Enhancing usability is a canopy with a pop-up rear window.

Where body styles are concerned, the Volkswagen Caddy range will kick-off with the short wheelbase model that provides seating for five passengers with the option of a third-row bench. New Volkswagen Caddy for SA Soon

Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed that the new Caddy will arrive locally in November 2021. Here’s what you can expect from the popular MPV.

The Volkswagen Caddy serves as both a family MPV or cargo-hauling business vehicle and the new 5th-generation Caddy is due to arrive in South Africa in November 2021.

The Caddy is built on Volkswagen’s highly scalable MQB platform and rather than re-designing the wheel for its new Caddy, Volkswagen design approach is more evolutionary. The face of the new Caddy and the grille in particular is much slimmer than before with newly-designed LED headlights and a honeycomb mesh design for the lower grille completing the front-end design. The Caddy’s rear end gets slim vertical LED headlights. The Caddy will be offered with either a single large tailgate or dual rear doors as well as single or double side sliding doors. These doors can also be opened or closed electrically if you wish. Optional features will include a panoramic sunroof, removable tow bar and 16-inch Wien alloy wheels. A total of 12 body colours will also be on offer.

Engines for the new VW Caddy

The new Caddy will be offered with a petrol or diesel engine. The 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine will offer 81 kW and 152 Nm of torque and will be mated with a 6-speed manual transmission. Volkswagen claims 7.3L/100km for this engine and it will offered in the Caddy, Caddy Kombi (SWB) and Caddy Cargo (SWB).

As for the diesel engine, it’s a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine with 81 kW and 300 Nm of torque and it will also be paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and carry a claimed fuel consumption figure of 5.5 L/100km. It will be offered in the Caddy, Caddy Maxi (LWB), Caddy Kombi (SWB), Caddy Cargo (SWB) and Caddy Maxi Cargo (LWB).

The passenger Caddy and Caddy Maxi will be sold with a 3-year/120 000km warranty while the Caddy Kombi, Caddy Maxi Kombi, Caddy Cargo and Caddy Maxi Cargo come standard with a 2-year / unlimited km warranty. A 12-year anti-corrosion warranty is also standard across the range.

Local pricing details will be confirmed closer to launch in November 2021.

New Volkswagen Caddy here soon: SA details confirmed ahead of November launch

The new Volkswagen Caddy is set to hit South African shores in November, and the German carmaker has released a few of the local details ahead of launch. Pricing, however, will only be announced nearer to the time.

The 2021 Volkswagen Caddy is not just a facelift of a facelift, like its Golf 5-based predecessor was. The compact van and passenger bus range has finally shifted onto the MQB platform that underpins most modern VeeDubs, including the Polo and Golf 8.

The Volkswagen Caddy will be available with two engines in South Africa, in the form of a 1.6-litre MPI normally aspirated petrol unit, offering 81kW and 152Nm, and a 2.0-litre TDI turbodiesel that’s good for 81kW and 300Nm. Both engines are paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The new Volkswagen Caddy range also kicks off a new naming convention, with model grade flavours now consisting of Caddy, Caddy Kombi and Caddy Cargo, with all three versions available in standard wheelbase and long wheelbase ‘Maxi’ guises. Volkswagen says even the shorter version is larger than its predecessor. Depending on the model, buyers can choose between five-seat and seven-seat interior configurations, all featuring folding seats that are easily removable, as well as sliding rear passenger doors.

On the tech front, prospective buyers can look forward to new radio and infotainment systems, including the Composition Comfort radio with App-Connect. Available convenience features include cruise control, rear-view camera, multi-function steering wheel, Park Assist and Trailer Manoeuvring.

The new one is coming soon, but here's what you'll pay for a used VW Caddy in SA

• The latest Volkswagen Caddy is launching in November 2021.

• We look at how older Caddy models are trading on the used car market in SA.

• The long-wheelbase Caddy Maxi 2.0TDI Crew Bus is the most searched-for model in the used market.

The new Volkswagen Caddy is scheduled to hit the local market in November 2021, with the fifth-generation version having moved to the Wolfsburg-based firm's ubiquitous MQB platform.

Since the Caddy nameplate has a long history in South Africa (including a certain half-tonne bakkie), we thought it prudent to look at how the model has been trading on the used market in recent times.

We'll be using AutoTrader data covering the period from the start of January 2021 to the end of August 2021, examining the most searched for Caddy variants.
