The VW Up! Thread

Being such a small car though I think the usual issues with a 2-door probably don't apply so heavily here.

Would be a worth a look.

There is a 5 door Up! and despite people claiming that VWSA is bringing it to our shores I very much doubt that.

I heard that the problem is that the back doors are. made of glass. That makes it too dangerous to sell in SA.

car of the year

Pffft. Opel won that. Of all the VWs the Up! is my favourite though. It's a real peoples car again and I like when cars stay true to their origins. Like the K that won, it has "true emotion and technology". The Up! has true affordability and durability - to me that is what a VW should be. Pity they seem to build so few of those.

WV should have learnt staying true to their origins with the beetle. Could have been today`s people`s car, but they had to go and be fancy. damn shame on them throwing such an awesome brand away

No ways....in that sector..."budget" it's a looker.

We won't iterate that one of the biggest selling points of the Up! is that it feels & drives like a bigger car...easily a class above.

Insint probably prefers the Chery QQ.

As mentioned previously the 5-door Up! is now in SA.

This is not the facelift. That's coming later still.

...

Expect almost 0 availability in order to protect the Vivo...

...

Lol at the Cross Up!

That looks slightly less ridiculous than I would've expected. :D

In the era of seemingly every 2nd model having an Angry version it's still less silly looking than most.

What nonsense are you talking about. There is a market for both vehicles.

The Vivo is older yes but it's physically bigger & can carry more. Engine is proven as well.

Up! is newer & smaller.

I would take the Up! anyday but there is room for both to coexist.

The 'nonsense' I'm talking about is informed by a good few years of experience at VW dealer level. Yes, the Vivo has its advantages over the up!, but many people who have bought Vivos instead of up!s thus far - in my experience - have done so because they were dissuaded by the 3-door layout. Fact is, unless you specifically need the extra room the Vivo offers, the up! is the better car. It's safer, more economical and far more refined.

There is undoubtedly a market for both, but with the Vivo being locally built that won't satisfy VWSA - they need Vivo to sell to its absolute maximum potential, and the 5-door up! will impact that.

The article mentions it looks like VWSA will let market forces to determine what occurs.

I do agree with you about the 3-door Up!

I was referring to the "nonsense" you mention of zero availability of the 5-door Up! to protect the Vivo.

I think Vivo sales will take a fair knock now that the 5-door Up! is finally out locally.
