The Witcher 3 Official thread

Awesome! Thanks guys. Been looking for a new RPG to enjoy. I'm a huge fallout and oblivion fan, weirdly not a Skyrim fan. Can't wait to watch my beard grow.

I played about 2 hours of The Witcher 2. It's narrow focus guiding me to what I must do put me off it.

The Witcher 3, on the other hand, I've spent around 20 hours in so far and I'm absolutely loving it. Be warned that it is rich in lore and a lot of it gets lost on you if you don't know the backstory, as is my case. I just shrug it off and go explore another question mark on the map.

I was worried there is something wrong with me for not being able to push through the tutorial of Witcher 2. It wasn't bad. But it just didn't pull me.

This is what made me quit Witcher 2 halfway and try and play 1 first. I really liked the story, but too much of it was lost due to not knowing what happend in one.

Tried playing 1, but didn't get far. The game play didn't grab me and it's a bit dated.

Thinking of reading the novels and then maybe just playing 3. From what I hear it's pretty good.

Never read the books, would love to but I don't think they've all been translated to English yet & I'm not ready to take on Polish. TW3 is really awesome though, forget what you've seen from 1&2 although 2 is not all that bad. The story & atmosphere in TW3 is awesome, no game has ever made my hair stand on end & given me goosebumps before, I'm not exaggerating here.

Hehe you sound like me. I never quit on games, but I made an exception for Witcher 2. That tutorial and starting parts just really put me off, never went back to it.

I really liked the 7 hours of Witcher 3 that I got to play, until I got to the 2nd open zone and the game physics totally broke on me :/
Guess sometime I'll download it again and see if a new game fixes the problem.

My question is. Do I need to play the other two games first to be able to understand the story of the 3rd installment?

Hardly! I'm not even an RPG fan, never played a Witcher game in my life but this game has left me in awe.

It was difficult for me to get into initially but I stuck with it though.

Same, I loved 1, 2 was meh but haven't managed to get pulled into 3. Guess I don't have the time to be fair.

What ending did you guys get? Finished the game today (90 hours on death march) and after looking at all the possible endings seems I got the worst one. Could also be the best one, depending on how you look at it.

I also got the worst ending on my first playthrough. Fortunately it wasn't a completionist run and didn't take me too long. I got the 'best' ending on my second go, which is when I also finished the game.

It's basically impossible to get a good ending if you don't look up which decisions to take at which moments. Chances of getting them right are slim due to their arbitrary nature.

The second play through, did you do NG+? I'm thinking of doing it after I'm done with HoS, to play through all the main quests and side quests that affect the main story (like Dijkstra's regicide plot).

No. I'm a pretty casual player. I would have chosen NG+ if not for the ramp in difficulty.

You can lower the difficulty level in NG+ I think. I found the game pretty easy even on DM, besides the Imlerith fight. You just have to upgrade potions/bombs/oils/witcher gear and it's a cakewalk.

I've finally got to this game. Played 1 and 2 over the last few months to get the full story. Just have an issue regarding whether to start The Witcher 3 now or only after downloading all the patches and/or getting the expansion Hearts of Stone.

I just have the base game v1.02. I see that the patches are quite large and thus I won't be able to download them until next month. The 1.10 patch is 10GB, 1.07 patch is over 2GB. According to the patch notes, there's been a lot of improvements.

So, should I only start my game after getting the latest patches but only next month? Or are they not too necessary? I see the expansion adds a few more levels etc. as well.

Witcher 1 and 2 aren't anywhere close to the level of Witcher 3 imo. You could have just caught up the story and decision points with one of the interactive websites or comic books out there.

W3 should absolutely not be played if it's not patched. The DLC could wait, but it's best to get an expansion pass now. Blood & Wine is coming out quite soon after all. How are you not able to download? Does your ISP not offer uncapped midnight data?

I'm a completionist so I always do every possible side quest and explore everywhere. Hence going through the first two games completely before getting to this one.

I have capped mobile internet (20gb pm). I guess waiting is best then although I have tested it out a bit. Played until taking down the big bird yesterday.

There are save breaking bugs in W3. Loads of them. You definitely want to get patched sooner rather than later.

The benefit of getting the DLC now is that you can enjoy the new armour and equipment for a much longer period. The DLC story is more enjoyable if you finish the main quest though.

Also, make sure you look up the decisions in the game that determine the ending. There is a 0% chance you'll make the right choices on your own, and you'll hate it if you get a crap ending. The choices involve arbitrary stuff, so you shouldn't encounter any major spoilers.

If you or anyone else can give me a link where to download the individual patches from I could do it for you & courier it.

Do you have the gog, steam or retail box copy?

GOG copy. Thanks for the offer but it's fine. I'll just hold off for a few weeks. Started up Dark Souls today and that will keep me occupied for a while. Haven't played it before as well.

Took a while for me to get into as I'm not an RPG fan at all. Haven't played 1 or 2.

It was this thread that finally convinced me to buy the game.
