Witcher S1 - 5/10. Meh. Bad casting choice re Triss. I want a red head one!

I didn't like the casting choice, no secret there. But WTF happened here? She looks like the wise old sage. Maybe the pressure of the casting got to her as it was a double bogey with her acting so weak. The character is forgettable.

This is an exhibit of why forced diversity is disastrous. Imagine how much better this should would have been with a fiery redhead that sported a matching personality.

I liked the season but probably because of the game. Felt a bit of a mess at times. Will have to watch second season, obviously.

Not in its wildest dreams. At best G.O.T extra extra lite but really nowhere near the same ballpark.

I've watched 4 episodes, just not sure if I should bother pressing on.

Depends which part of GOT we are talking about.

Not as good as GOT when it had GRR's influence, superior to when it was Beinoff & Weiss screwing up as they went...

The Mrs and I finally got round to watching it (just finished Ep6).

Tried to avoid as much online commentary as possible (burnt my fingers with other shows - some ******** is always going to spoil), and went in with an open mind. I've never read the books, and while I have Wild Hunt on my PC, I've never actually gotten round to playing it.

Not being an authority on the lore by any means, I think the show has done well so far in building the various main characters (especially Geralt and Yennefer) - and nice to know we've gotten something a bit extra with the Yennefer back story, too.

The pacing is a bit strange at times, with timelines a bit fuzzy especially with no transition, and not sure how people are even able to compare it to GoT - I don't think any show in television history has ever had a budget and scale that big (made very obvious by a certain something that both shows share - if you know you know). But, as for action, dark comedy, and just pure entertainment, this is growing into a firm favourite of mine already.

Low budget, no story line, bad acting, bad directing, bad producing. Not worth the effort.

Agreed, it feels like a Xena Warrior princess low budget or that other show with Kevin Sorbo (Hercules series)

I watched 2 episodes so far. Having played all the games I can say that the timelines will be difficult to understand straight away. Once Yennefer was introduced I immediately knew that her section/character development had to be in the past. People who don't know this will be confused.

The whole series is based entirely on the books - and the game is based on its own storyline - and the two don't often overlap, either. So it's all going to be pre-Witcher 1 backstory possibly. Though, unless I'm mistaken, the games aren't even meant to be a continuation of the books at all.

As for the books (which I haven't read either), a lot of Yennefer's back story wasn't even in them, and was just fabricated for the show, apparently.

And agree re: timelines. Early in the series she's a girl, but later on she's like 70-100 years old at least, like when she tells the young trainees that it was her room long before anyone they've known was even born, and also says later that she's lived at least 3 lifetimes. Depending on how far ahead the games are set, that would make a her a GMILF.

I've watched most of the 1st season. I only played the games, never read the books. My god, the women they cast are ugly. In the game, Triss, Ciri and Yennefer are mind-bogglingly gorgeous. In the series, not one of them would even get a second look on the street. As for the series itself.....meh, way too much drama.

They are meant to be “growing” roles I would imagine, as they are purposely downplayed at the beginning of the show now while being very good looking outside of it.

However, with the show being written by a women a lot of the misogyny of Geralt is removed I suspect.

Only watched first two episodes and I would definitely give Tissaia one that’s for sure.

Never read the books nor played the games and I was lost for the 1st 3 episode. Only figured by the 4th episode the story was taking place in different timelines. Overall it was good, can be better. Felt the story moved way too fast without even telling you it's doing time jumps. Kinda wish it took its times like GoT.

Fight scenes and monsters were done well. And it felt like S01 focused much more on Yennefer and Ciri, as opposed to the titular character.

An opening showing a map or something would have been nice. Nilfgaard, Cintra, Skellige etc. means nothing without reference and a bit of history. Conjunction of the spheres as well. A little more world building.

There's another fantasy show I could direct you to that has that in the opening credits.

In this one episode they show 3 different timelines with no explanation or indication that it is 3 different timelines.
If you have no prior knowledge you would be lost without realising how lost you are.

This. While I am actually enjoying the series tremendously thus far (watched up to E4 so far), it is mainly for the CGI, the action and the boobies.

The storyline can be as confusing AF, and I only guessed that different timelines were being used, even though I played Witcher 3 on PC.
