The XBOX 360 FAQ

For those wondering if FFXI online runs on an xbox in SA, the answer is a big fat YYYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! :D

provided that you have the following:

1. An xbox LIVE acc. (i'm running mine on a UK acc but I dont think the region really matters.Still, No LIVE access = no FFXI. period.)
2. Visa/Mastercard (its currently 12 euro p/m but you get a 30 day trial)

when you insert the FFXI disc you will first install playonline; this in turn will lead to the installation of FFXI. you must enter credit card details during the playonline installation/registration to continue. the rest is a matter of waiting for installs and updates (+/- 4 hours during initial installation/updating).

important things to note:
1. you do not need a gold LIVE acc. Silver does the trick.
2. the region entry during the playonline registration does not have to match the region selected in your xbox LIVE account. so use your billing address when entering that section of the registration for playonline.
3. playonline will prompt you to link ONE gamertag/profile to your playonline ID once registration is complete. while playonline DOES NOT compare or verify any details between your playonline profile and your gamertag, you can only link ONE profile and THIS IS NOT AMMEDABLE OR TRANSFERABLE.

I'll update this as i get more into it, but i hope it helps those wanting to get their feet wet in this amazing MMORPG

Thanks I_F, very keen to get this now :D

Interesting dilemma of a buddy of mine.

He has a ADSL line, DSL modem, no PC, but wishes to connect to Xbox Live.

How does he do it?

As n00b a question as you get!

i think he'll need a pc or laptop for the initial setup of the modem. don't you have a laptop you can let him use for that? after setup he shouldn't need it anymore

Ja, you need to log into the modem to set the initial login credentials.

Is it a modem or a router is the bigger question?

If it's just a USB modem, then he's a bit shtoofed, it needs to be a "router" ie has an ethernet port.

see, it aint just me having 'How to setup the router' issues ....... add it to FAQ beeyatches :p:D

I think it's one of those Telkom modem thingies. I havent been at his place to check it out as he's in JHB and called me to give him advice. He's not very technically inclined either :(

Well I have given up, xbox 1, me 0!!

But wait till saturday you $$%%^$#, then I am bringing a crossover home and YOU WILL STREAM movies!!!!!

did you turn off IPv6 on your pc?

Nope....should I?

well the first time i installed vista i was having a myriad of network related issues and then i decided to match the network settings to those of xp and that meant turning off ipv6 and some other protocol and voila, my issues were gone. since then everytime i install vista the first thing i do is disable ipv6 and my network works first time, so who knows maybe you're having the same issues that i was :o

Installing the NXE via PC download

You know what I mean ;)

To create an update disc you need the following:

* A DVD or CD burner.
* A blank, writeable DVD or CD.
* The update file from Xbox.com.

This procedure involves burning the DVD or CD by using Microsoft Windows DVD or CD burning software. If you're using third-party CD/DVD writing software, follow the instructions for creating a data disc.

The same steps apply whether burning a CD or a DVD.

To create a DVD or CD:

1. Click here to begin downloading the update folder. Save it as "$SystemUpdate_Fall08.zip" anywhere on your computer.
2. Place a blank disc in your burner.
From Windows Explorer, select Open Writable CD Folder Using Windows Explorer or open the CD drive icon.
3. Open (double click) the zipped $SystemUpdate_ Fall08.zip folder and drag the contents of the zipped folder to the root of the CD Folder. If the CD write window doesn't open by default, drag and drop the folder onto the CD/DVD RW drive.

Note
If you are using an earlier version of Windows you will need to open the file using a separate utility (for example, WinZip).
4. In the Explorer window, click Write files to CD from the CD writing tasks or right-click the CD/DVD RW drive and select Write these files to CD.

Caution
The update filename and folder structure must be intact for the update to run properly.
5. Follow the steps in the CD wizard.
When you are finished with the wizard, the CD will eject. Your CD is ready.

To update the console:

1. Place the CD in the Xbox 360 console.
2. Power cycle the Xbox 360 console.
3. The update program will start automatically. Select Yes, update now and press A.
4. Wait for the update to complete.
5. When the console reboots, you're done.

Well I know you are all dying to know, so I'll tell ya:

I got my streaming to my xbox to WORK!!!!!!! No crossover cables, just normal cat 5, my trusty ol netgear router.

Somethings I learned from my side:

1) Don't use the telkom router *spit*
2) Do not hard code an IP on your Xbox
3) Use portforward.com and set the ports for TVersity on your router
4) Oh yes and use TVersity

Hey guys,

I'm trying to set up a Live account for my cousin and following the suggestions from the sticky (which worked perfectly for me), but it seems that now after creating a windows live password and choosing a region I"m asked for credit card details which screws up the whole 'applying from another country' thing.

Any thoughts on if this is NXE related?

Thanks

No worries. Got it to work. The family were trying to use emails that were already Windows Live linked.

Sorry.

Opens up ports on your router to allow NAT for xbox live... helped me stax... not sure if it will help you, but it will help you one way or another...

IT'S ALL FRENCH TO ME

WOW!! are you people speaking english? :D

pleeeeez do a ''connect-xbox-to-laptop for dummies'' segment. NB~~in layman's terms. it's all very well and good for you computer fundis saying change your PPPOEpcorn settings and connect the zipzorp to the dinterweiler-whichimecallit and reroute the gooligag, but that's way over my head.

i've squizzed thru this thread, and it's pretty confusing for me, who knows how to switch on a computer, managed to connect my xbox to my tv and play games LOL, does all the home entertainment device set-ups at home (that is to say-connected a new dvd player/video machine to the tv and tune them in), i can work a kettle too. ;)

i am on the xbox.com website on one of the other tabs too, but i know from past experience that i will have a problem connecting. i mean if you wizards have trouble, imagine poor widdle me.

so pleeeez i'm asking from the bottom of my toetsies, help me set-up (imagine if you will, trying to help your granny set-up her xbox, what kind of step-by-step info would you give her). from one young-at-heartian to another bunch. i love playing tv games (no kidding, is that why i got me a game console?) and have fallen in love with WIK & THE FABLE OF SOULS demo and would like to download the full game (crumbs that's gonna be another matter all together).

Thanks
