Got internet over WIFI but can't see pc's

Please help !

Hi everyone,

I got my X1 just before Xmas, and so far am loving it. Just two things that I am concerned about:

1. The cell signal is usually very low - fluctuates between 1 or 2 bars. (However when I do make/receive calls, it is clear). With one experiment, I placed my brother's htc diamond next to it, and his showed full signal strength.

2. On two occasions, (after the battery died), i tried to charge the x1 using the supplied two pin charger. Nothing happened -even after leaving it in there for a while. I eventually removed the battery and inserted it back in which seemed to do the trick - it started charging again.

Thus due to these 2 issues, I have not done any tweaks to the phone or installed any apps.

With such an expensive phone, it is worrying me.

I couldn't take the phone back sooner as its a corporate deal and the mtn shop where I got it from only opened a few days ago.

What do you guys think and what options do I have at this point?

Down here in the cape, my signal gets as low as 2 bars but i have never once had a problem with reception once a make or receive a call. its being crystal clear, which is all you want really.

yeah also not had reception problems even tho it appears low. firmware upgrade should sort that.

I am pretty sure a firmware upgrade will sort that problem out, main thing is the reception quality and i havennt had a problem there. Probably just a display issue on signal side.

I would say the first problem you are experiencing is nothing to stress about and the second problem you said has only happened twice since christmas so see if it is a recurring problem in next few days because it may be a problem with the battery or battery connector and will still be under warranty.

Otherwise start tweaking the phone the threads are full of awesome programs to maximise the use of the X1 and tailor it to your liking.:D

thanks for your replies everyone.

I changed my network band from auto to gsm to save on battery life, and immediately the signal jumped to full strength. To me thats a bit weird. Oh btw, i'm up here in jhb.

Yeah, i'll monitor the charging thing and hopefully it won't reoccur.

Ok - on with the tweaking now..; ')

Sorry if this has been asked but there is a lot of conflicting info out there regarding the Xperia GPS. Does it have a TRUE GPS chip and not just A-GPS which is just a fancy way for the networks to charge you for a service that is already free.

true gps.... im running garmin on my x1. others are running tomtom.

gps and tracking and routing is ACCURATE

just an FYI regarding the issue with cracks appearing on the XI. note this from an overseas site. Not sure if Sony locally will do the same for us?

http://xperia-x1.com/xperia-x1-starting-to-show-some-cracks/#comments

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 has just been outed a couple of weeks ago, and this early some Europen owners who bought the handset despite its high price are complaining that their units are showing some cracks on the casings.

The XDA-Developers site has already reported 24 cases or units with the said problem. The cracks are appearing near the stylus compartment while others are seeing the cracks somewhere near the battery compartment of their Xperia X1.

For those who haven’t seen the cracks on their phones, here’s some glimmer of hope for you. The said crack problem have affected only the silver Xperia X1’s with a production week range of 08W44-08W46. So you better check out your Xperia X1 and see if it falls in the said production week. You can easily see this by checking out your unit’s information sticker which you can find inside the phone if you remove your phone’s battery.

If you Xperia X1 fall in the said category, better head back to your Sony Ericsson dealer where you got the phone and tell them about the report. They might change it with a newer model of the Xperia X1.

Got a Omnia today as a secondary phone. I must say, it's definately better than the X1.

Piesang, with all due respect, your views on the X1 are well documented. Would you please stop raining on the parade of those who enjoy the device. Your constant badgering of this thread is tiresome for those of us who come here to find out about the device, tweaking, other issues etc. We know about your issues, at great lengthy you have dissed the product. Job well done, if thats what you wanted to do.

Please.
