Rand is stretched to breaking point. It can't take any more stress without rebounding. Been the case for a few months now so nothing to do with gold or oil, just simple economic sentiment.

I get the feeling our zar is so broken and brittle ANY thing outside out borders can swing this badboy like a fcking playground toy.

And #Brexit will be used as the excuse by the ANC to cover up their incompetence

They'd better be quick, the FTSE100 has already regained its losses and more, the FTSE250 is improving and the GBP will follow, everyone's realised nothing's changing in the short term at least.

Couple of points:

1) GBP depreciated significantly today after Carney announced interest rate cuts and stimulus. I reckon GBP/USD could go as low as 1:1 in the coming months as the gravity of the situation sinks in. Potential loss of single market, Scottish independence, trouble with NI/ROI etc aren't going to get fixed anytime soon.

2) FTSE100 index is quoted in GBP so the gain is actually still a loss, which is partially mitigated because most of the companies in that index earn 75%+ of their revenue outside of the UK.

Buckle up, it's going to get ugly.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to how much more the GBP will depreciate to the ZAR? I see it's currently around 19.35. I suspect it could get to under 19 to around 18.90's next week, but could it get lower? So much uncertainty in the markets at the moment, you never know. Of course, the Rand could have another shock that could reverse the trend.

GBP could gain dollar parity in the near (5 years) future, imho.

Will the pound ever be the pound again or will the downwards spiral mean the end of the pound?

Because I always wanted to buy pounds but no... Seems the dollar truly is the best currency there is.

Things will recover and get back to normal. The UK and EU will negotiate some trade treaties possibly marginally worse for the UK than before and the UK will hash out its border differences with France. The Scots will be too chicken to split from the UK - again...

Everyone loves to cry Doom and Gloom but life goes on - the powers that be still want to make money and they will ensure that it happens.

Financial markets, where you get the most doom prophets.
