US is open. The rand looked good cuase the dollar was scared prior to Yellen's speech now all will be back to normal and by us close our rand will be back where it was.

Really? Looks pretty much the same at this time and the Euro and Pound gains we had? Was that also because of Yellens speech?

hmmm, so the ZAR exchange rate with USD, GBP and EUR are all better now than just before nenegate?

Just goes to show those three regions have a lot of problems these days, where the hell do we emigrate to now? :o

Yeah, but Nenegate got fixed at least. I doubt the Rand would be back to its current level if Des was still our minister of finance.

This might be short lived though. So I am buying some stuff from the Europe whilst its low. i don't think its going to get lower.

There's been suggestions that if it can close around 12.90, it could even run lower. But who knows. Zuma could do something to reverse all the gains and worse. I guess you can't go wrong buying things at this rate though.

Well color me purple sorry guys - I was wrong. Clearly Forex is not my thing.

$USDZAR 12.9996

Rand will fall to R19 to the Dollar by when again?

To be fair, that could've been a possibility if Zuma wasn't halted in his state capturing and plundering, and that was the basis of many traders' opinions. We still could get a ratings downgrade which could have a negative impact (but would need Zuma doing his thing for it to reach the heights of R19/USD).

The Competition Commission on Wednesday referred a collusion case to the Tribunal for prosecution against 17 banks, including three of South Africa's big banks.

The Commission has been investigating a case of price fixing and market allocation in the trading of foreign currency pairs involving the rand since April 2015. It has now referred the case to the Tribunal for prosecution.

And just like that, all of today's gains have been undone...

So the currency manipulators have been caught again. Knew something had to be behind the sudden "strengthening" of the Rand again.
