Finally, lets do sub R9.00 !!!
So the currency manipulators have been caught again. Knew something had to be behind the sudden "strengthening" of the Rand again.
All you guys moaning about Rand strength, you been having it for sooooooooooooooooooo long, give us poor folk some love already and stop sobbing.
Going to be difficult.Hopefully we can get GBP to R15 in this week. I think the next support for ZAR/USD is at R12.90, if there is enough support it should continue to strengthen.
Come on ZAR show us what you can do!
Actually as I've explained I paid when it was bad and got my commission when it was good so I've not been having it but get screwed both ways. I don't mind a stronger rand and have actually been saying all along it should trade at R7, but it should happen gradually so everyone can have a fair chance to react. Hoping for R14.50 in the coming weeks so we can offload what we have at least. All you guys moaning about Rand strength, you been having it for sooooooooooooooooooo long, give us poor folk some love already and stop sobbing.
I don't know how people can honestly believe that. You can buy twice in rands what you can in dollars so there's no way that's a natural decline. Remember the rand has been strengthening the last couple of weeks and not just on the news breaking. With the investigation going on they weren't able to continue with their tactics. This has more to do with the rand actually getting worse over the last couple years.. :| News comes out and rands strengthens...
Going to be difficult.

It's easy to say in hindsight what pushed it. That misses all the occasions where something really big happened and it didn't react. Someone posted a graph earlier in this thread I think indicating all the hits and misses. Results on unemployment + Trump sage pushed us passed the major support of 13.20.
Next was this saga with the commission which pushed us passed the 13.00 mental support and we are chugging along to the 12.90 major support. After that 12.65 or so etc.
the ANC is doing something right

I hoped Zuma's speech of more of the same would have pushed it over the edge but it didn't so hoping for the budget speech next week. I've been saying for a long time something is going on behind the scenes as the rand doesn't react to events besides for Nene-gate. Turns out I was right about that.
You're looking for reasons right. Doesn't mean those reasons actually apply. The charts indicate these events only happen to coincide with it once it a while. You said it wasn't a natural decline. I'm giving you reasons why it went down.
It doesn't just decide.. technicals and fundamentals rule charts.

Now that can only be if there are other overriding factors involved. I did say it wasn't a natural decline from R7 to R14 because that's exactly what it is when collusion is involved. And a gaining is exactly what we expect if they are caught.
