The rand actually seems a bit firmer after the budget speech, it's gone up a bit in most cases. Sitting at low 16s to the pound, mid to high 13s for the Euro and just touching R13 with the dollar.

Now we wait for the supposed cabinet reshuffle... If Gordhan goes, the Rand is going to go into free-fall.

Gordhan was pretty shrewd in thanking Zuma for his support IMO. If he gets fired now, he looks completely innocent, and the bigger person, and Zuma and his cronies would have some egg on their faces.

Not that it'd matter in the end, of course.

They still intend on firing him so they go about "transforming" the treasury. Gupta appointed advisors and other things to facilitate free access.

R13.12
Seems people are expecting the Trumpet to have some good news.

Maybe a bit off topic but it's also worth comparing ZAR to BTC.
About 2 years ago I bought some bitcoins at R3000 a coin. Today 1 BTC will set you back R16K, I think yesterday it went up to 17K which is more than just before the mt.Gox saga.

I'm no expert in this field but it feels allot safer to keep the value of my money in the form of bitcoins. Especially with everything that's happening right now and still needs to happen.

:erm: Growth has nothing to do with safety.

Ugh, R13.24/$. Zuma rekking his bek again?!

No the dollar gained some grounds due to the possible interest rate hike and investors are a bit cautious of investing in emerging markets, also the lower than expected GDP rates didn't help :-(
