I guess you should order the stuff and have the auto back patter and arse kicker at the ready... honestly though, our currency is quite unstable, thus you either gonna do well or do bad, one way to find out though :)

i like it when the rand is over 10 to the dollar asour daughter sends money over and we score big time.

In this economic climate not even the best economists in the world can predict what is going to happen next.

Gotta love your signature.... I like the part where you left out the price of the soccer ticket. They just here for some "fun"

Yeah. Some win and some lose. Im really trying to figure out how I can be the winner for once

ha ha ha, yeah, I'm quite proud of it, even though I had to cut out the: "there's some things condoms can't stop, for everything else there's showers" part :(.

But, yeah, i think you just gonna have to commit yourself to this and just gun it hey. Just pray it comes right.... Oh, and by the looks of things, it's the dollar(US) that's weakening not us that's getting stronger,

Do it now quick... cos the reason why it came down is the promise of an interest rate cut.

The rand won't strengthen much i don't think, it is better for us to have the rand at 9 than 6 or 7. We need to export more than we import and a strong rand means we import more than we export which is bad.

I overheard some guys at ABSA today while waiting for a teller and they said that there is a 100point rate cut coming end of March and then maybe another 100 in the next 2 months. So maybe the rand will strengthen a bit more. But no use going on about it now because I already paid for the item via Paypal and they will use the highest rate of today.

yeah that is very true, but you know howsomething is bad in the long run but because you can benefit from it now. YOU WANT IT YOUR WAY:D

So the Rand has gained some nice ground the last few days or maybe the Dollar slipped a bit.
Do you think it will continue on this trend or will it go back past the R10/$ level soon?
Reason I am asking. I am importing something from the US and if the Rand strengthens another 25-50cents it will save me a considerable amount of money. But if it weakens again it will also cost me bit more.

So I guess it's one of those situations where I am either gonna kick myself or pat myself on the back for making that 50/50 call.

Dollar slipped a bit lately - last few days.

If you pay with PayPal you can decide who does the conversion, PayPal or Credit Card company. If it's PayPal you'll see the Rand amount in front of you and PayPal will debit Rands from your CC not Dollars, otherwise the CC company may take 2-3 days to do the conversion by which time the Rand could plummet or could improve.

Well the USA are printing money so the dollar should lose and the rand pickup

I think most currencies are doing that, quantitative easing. However, there are signs the US economy is starting to recover.

The Rand has never gained just before elections, now as Zuma becomes the next president it can only get worse against the dollar.:eek:

$ = R 9
£ = R 13.37
€ = R 12.13
Oil = $ 53.53
Gold = $ 879.27

Seems the Zuma news has not hit the markets yet...

Don't be stoophid. The Zuma news hit the market months ago. No one's surprised by it and certainly no one with enough money to shift the currency value.

because the $ 1 trillion made available for retarded developing countries requires gold reserves to be sold. And Zuma will probably do a Zim 2.0 and give away gold for free. Got gold? Sell it.

Odd that the Rand has remained so strong, given that this was such a foregone conclusion then.

But the massive inflationary issues about to rear their heads require huge gold hedges. Gold will go up, but not before it takes a slight knock. And markets rallied on the news and global positive sentiment. The market couldn't price in this decision before it was made...
