believe me, what is liquid has been reallocated, but short of taking a decade plus old pension fund
and this is why I simply refused to pay pension (or RA or any of these long term products) and left my job as a consequence

Is there anyway the rand can go back to R10 to the USD anytime soon (like next 2 years)?
(Nope, not any times soon).
If it does and below, will prices go down with it, ie. food?
(A little bit yes)
If the Reserve Bank increases the repo by .25 or .50, how will that affect the rand?
(R17 to USD next month)

they'd need to hike by 100 basis points to convince me they're serious
25 pts to simply counteract the Fed's tightening in December
25 pts to counteract the general decline in exchange rate
25 pts to counteract the direct impact of nenegate
25 pts because once you're at 75 you might as well hike 100 and do it properly
We are heading into recession one way or another but they are going to initially try not tip the scales straight away, so 1% is out of the question right now.
that's tantamount to a choice between cutting off your gangrene infected hand to save the arm, or waiting until you have to cut the whole arm
like you said, we're heading into recession regardless, choosing to delay the inevitable is simply going to get us into recession with a worthless currency as well, I say bring the pain, the sooner it comes the sooner it will pass
It is unclear that any hike below something massive (5%+) would help the Rand.
yip, sounds about right, I'm game for 5% too, just wished for 1% to keep it somewhere within the realms of possibility, of course if 1% can't be stomached by the SARB and the ANC they sure as hell won't try 5%

5% jeeez....you mad. That would spell ruin surely.

I can promise you it will just be another 25 bases points. They think it will make a difference every time.
It would, so it won't happen unless things get much much worse.
The effect will be short lived.Hopefully that is just the start.
Thats not quite right. A big increase would rattle the economy too...and harm your investment prospects. Just because you don't have debt doesn't mean other don't. And a bunch of guys defaulting on their mortgage payment hardly makes for good stability.Just another South African with most of my investments in ZAR which I'd like not to vanish like dust in the wind because our reserve bank doesn't have the balls to apply proper medicine to zumatello's last stuff-up
... also have debt under control so won't feel the hit of a 1% hike ...

As for the guys suggesting 5%...lol.
