Turns out the fall of the Rand is not because of the actions of our leaders

The currency was the best performer against the dollar, after Brazil’s real, among 24 emerging-market currencies in June. The rand notched up its best month since March as global central banks signaled readiness to support their economies and stem the fall-out from the UK’s vote last week to leave the European Union.

The Rand has not recovered since the drastic drop attributed to your corrupt leader, Zuma's, imbecilic self serving actions firing Nene.

Pravin got the Rand back to where is was just before the firing on Nene was announced.

Tough one to call.. Between then and now a lot of other data influenced the rand. One could argue that it recovered but then also argue that excluding the drop % we are still worse of. Would that be right? [this is like Eskom's claim that lack of load shedding is a direct result of their efforts.. Yes but energy consumption has dropped off the cliff too so we have a larger buffer]

Tough call because currently the part of investment sentiment about Rand still awaits election results and turn around of economy so technically we still underperforming till political change occurs. The rand strengthening lately is simply because SA, like most emerging economies, provide good growth and currently undersold so a bit of bargain in some ways but I'm sure people are aware of the political risk.. It's just compare to UK with capital flight coming as euro fin capital moves to Denmark or Germany.. SA & gold looks attractive.

Another thing.. Trade data should our exports exceed imports for the 1st time in a while which could indicate a turn around so investment coming in.

R14.47/$ as at 13:39. Not too bad. How long it lasts is the question...

The "ordinary man" doesn't have access to information regarding serious cash flows, in or out. Simples.

*an ex home trader who found out the hard way. ;)

UK politics are screwing with it. Should be lower

One favour Brexit has done for us is that US interest rates will stay on hold till 2017. UK and Europe also trending downwards even more.

And with interest rates as low as it is in most of the developed world ours in comparison is very tempting to funds. Money follows yield (grossly simplified but essentially true).

I do expect to see flows reversing towards the end of the year if it still looks like junk is coming (as right now it very much does).

*none of this takes into account the "Zuma does something moronically stupid" wildcard.

They were not going to hike regardless, now they just have the credible excuse they were waiting for:

Hmmm, seems to be the lowest it's been in a while. Is now a good time to pump some ZAR into a FNB global account? :D

Well. I was horribly wrong. In December 2015 I said the rand will be R12 by mid 2016.

So call me a hairless baby's left toe.

Would have been 13.50ish had Brexit and a Gupta's not happened.
If Hlaudi leaves, ANC loses some Metros and Zuma leaves.. We might get R12 in December.

Pound is being pounded and Euro still going to fall as the week goes on.
