Sorry if this isn't the best thread to ask this but where is the cheapest place to get a few hundred USD cash? Bank? Rennies? Airport? Like who pads the rate the least and doesn't overcharge on commission? Thanks

Can you buy USD cash without a ticket though?

I have noticed a few times when going over the ocean that the bank was by far the cheapest. Once tried exchanging in New York, biggest mistake yet.

Not really. There is hardly any demand for Rands there, so they have to hold them for longer, and so will adjust pricing for that. Am sure the US$ rate is more reasonable

Ahhh good point I have not thought about that.

never exchange ZAR outside SA!

In india i saw a rate board - they gave 2.5 rupees to a rand (when the official rate was 4.6inr to a rand!)

Try http://www.albaraka.co.za/Productsa...nd_InternationalBanking/Foreign_Exchange.aspx

Zero commission, fairly competitive rates. I last used their branch in Rosebank mall

That is why you use your card at an ATM in India and draw cash according to proper exchange rate.

Yes you pay a handling fee on transaction, but we have been doing that way for many years and never had issues.

USD/ZAR continues to fall: trade at 14.20

The ZAR is undervalued: if it wasn't for the politics, USD/ZAR would be trading under 13.00, even approaching 12.00.
If it wasn't for the politics it would be trading at under R7.

ZAR getting stronger as BOJ looking to drop interest rates even more and FED bank looking to keep the interest rate at 0.5%
