The Zimbabwe Elections 2023 thread

Damn, that is messed up. So it is quite impossible for Zanu to lose then?
News reports suggest this is a typical African "election", to hoodwink Western donors and Zanu would not allow anyone else to be declared winner.
Combination of so many factors - violence, intimidation, TV stations and newspapers tightly controlled by Zanu, elections body which is an extension of Zanu etc. It does not help that this particular opposition does not come across as a big threat, compared to previous elections.

Plain and simple kick them out to the shithole they created and tell them, fix it or live in it.
They really need to do something about it. This jumping over the border fence and climbing on crocodiles to get over the Limpopo River needs to stop. People need to start taking accountability and not look for excuses.

That country, like many other African ones, operates on greed, bribery and corruption. Their people are last on the politicians minds. They would walk over a dying hungry Zimbabwean on their way to stealing money.

You underestimate them.

The wouldn't just walk over a dying hungry Zimbabwan to steal money, they would actively cause the death of many Zimbabweans if it meant they got more power and money.

one could call Zim our version of Mexico,
people will move to where there are better opportunities, fact of life.

what bothers me is even having an election in the first place,
its almost like a school play at this stage, where all the parents turn up and expect little Timmy to act well, after so many rehearsals
problem is little Timmy is 10 Years old and cant keep things together, , so it goes downhill very fast.

were all here saying the elections will be free and fair, but we all know well in advance its a sh1tsh0w and the elections are but a distraction.
Zim is a dictatorship of the most brutal nature, in typical africa style,

Zimbabwe need a few more sanctions and should be fenched off from the rest of Africa. But our African buddies probably approve this tactics the Zanu-PF is using to win elections.

"They say this is a deliberate attempt to thwart efforts to break Zanu-PF's 43-year grip on power."

So not a democracy but a democracy. A totalitarian democracy. You have a choice but not really jokes lol.

That's some achievement in its own right.. ANC could only manage 30 years.

That Chamisa has just declared that he's already won the election and has encouraged ZANU PF to accept the election results and he promises to treat the Crocodile with respect when he takes power. It should at least be entertaining, but I do hope the ZANU lose. Zim needs change.

Do you think we'll ever actually see the ANC lose a general election outright, and accept it?

If by lose you mean fall below 50%; then yes, next year.

We will probably not have a single party get more than 50% again in SA for the foreseeable future.

I guess Zanu will continue to stay in power coz it seems Chamisa has no personal charm and ability to win enough support to overthrow the regime.

He had a huge engaged crowd at that rally yesterday. The Zanu had bussed in people leaving while the crocodile was talking. Whether that translates to votes remains to be seen. Mind you Zanu may not even hand power over even if they lose by a landslide. Their army is politiced
