Thermocouple connection

@Jitters thanks so much for the info, busy building my panel now got this https://www.robotics.org.za/PT100-2M-1P

Works beautifully. Did you know that with RTD you can add up to 3 decimals on the PID ( i just use 1 tho i.e. 65.5)!

Wanted to calibrate it and when I tested this vs my theropro for smoking it was the same temp to the decimal
Awesome. they really are nifty pieces of kit.

What are you going to house it in? I wouldn't get it wet if you can help it.

Please post pics when done!!

Massive 7l plastic lunch box :) Way bigger than all the plastic enclosures sold anyway.

Will post pics when done, bought a massive heatsink for the SSR as will will also have an SCR for precise tuning

Great. My enclosure sucks. it wasn't big enough or high enough for everything and they are super expensive. I need to rebuild mine at some point.

I have my SCR in a separate enclosure as I only use it for the boil, be careful with them they put out a lot of heat(both through the wire and in the enclosure). I'm not sure If I would use it in series with my PID but let me know how it goes.

Just FYI, The SSR doesn't put out nearly as much heat as SCR. I have both a heatsink and a Fan and I think both are pointless I would suggest adding that heat sink to the SCR and throwing in a fan in the enclosure to help with ventilation

It's fun playing mad scientist. I enjoyed it immensely figuring out how to build mine. Have you drawn up a diagram of how you will wire everything or will you just be playing it by ear?

Awesome thanks for the tips.

I have been wiring and testing everything all over the dining room table all week before building it into the box so I have a good idea of how it all fits together. My wife is not happy tho. "when am I getting the table back?" :) The garage is cold so dont like building there in the evening and my study is for work dont want to pack away the whole time.

The enclosure will have holes at the bottom with a fan at the temp aiming to use it with negative pressure to pull all hot air out and pull cold air in. The SCR has a fan built onto it already, but will monitor temps.

I have also decided against putting in a termowell and I put the temp probe straight into the urn outlet pipe that I have siliconed closed. This for me is more accurate than on the side. Will likely pop a build post in the craft brewing thread when done :)
