Thinking about leaving SA

So my sister-in-law and her boyfriend are here from Melbourne and we are sharing stories. Yes we have crime, yes we have the bluddy ANC, yes we have no power but god do we have it good. We all went out for a meal last night, what would have cost them $180, it came down to a table full of us for R1600.

We can take the dogs out without a leash, unheard of! Riding a bike without a helmet, absolute madness! I can go on and on, lets not even bring up driving a car without a seatbelt. We all take so much for granted until the rules come up and then we complain, point is that we all, across all divides, have problems.

All in all, damn, most of us have it good.

Really? :erm:

None of that means anything if you get shot or stabbed to death.

And who drives without a seatbelt? Besides it being illegal it's downright idiotic. Same goes for cycling without a helmet.

I'll never understand how someone can think having to wear a seatbelt and having insane serious crime levels can be remotely comparable.

Malta takes a EUR 650K investment to get citizenship.

C'mon Jay, it's sunday morning. How much is that in ZAR?

OP, I THINK if you buy a property in Spain you'll get citizenship and you'll probably qualify for a bond.

R8.5M. I suppose it's under the new R10M limit, so if you have the cash you could do it.

Agreed, wise decision, The UK has terrible weather, you wont enjoy it.

Actually not that bad. In winters its pretty crappy but summer makes up for it. Light till 9pm with temperatures high 20's. Even been know to over 30! :)

It all depends what weather you like. I'm not a fan of the stupid heat you guys have - I came back to SA on holidays in Dec and it was 32+ Aaagh! Give me 15 degrees anytime :)

Deciding to emigrate - It's all about what you want out of life - all countries have issues with something or other. No country is perfect.

For me the factors for moving was crime and future job prospects. (and cooler weather)
At least in the UK its central - can pop over to Europe for a few days and it doesnt cost a lot to get there.

$180AUS is R 1680. Not understanding the comparison

I hate it when people apply the exchange rate and then say xyz is expensive. Sure if you take SA rands and go overseas and spend it then apply the exchange rate.

Once you are earning Dollars/Pounds etc when you can no longer covert. My mom keeps saying things are expensive here - yes if you convert it to ZAR (because the exchange rate is up to crap)

For me its cheap here as I'm earning pounds. (In fact some things even converted to rands are still cheaper here)

I take it you don't live in London...lol.

Also you need to know what the salary is in the other city/country for exactly the same job and position. Only then can you get the real perspective.

So I'm seriously thinking about packing things up. The only reason I am hesitant is because of my friends and family, but the ANCs track record when it comes to running this country is getting worse, not better, so I'm thinking that I should at very least start exploring my options.

So which countries would be easiest for me to emigrate to? I'm a single Indian male. 31. BA with Honours (Media/Journalism and English). I have a SA passport.

Australia or United Kingdom.

Yep, I thought so, my scanner reads 'douchebag'.

I left the UK (I'm a Brit) to live in South Africa. I got fed up with the yob/drinking culture there and the fact I couldn't afford my own home. And yes, the weather sucks if you like an outdoor lifestyle!

what's wrong with doing that?

sometimes you want to let the dog run free in a field, hop on a bike to cycle to the shop without having to put the stupid helmet on.

same goes for seatbelt...

One - It is an animal, anything can happen. It can take off into the road, it can approach a dangerous dog that even if it is leashed could cause a spot of bother. In my case, I have a dog aggressive bull terrier that we go out of our way to keep away from other animals when walking him. If your dog, off its leash, approaches me and causes k@k, I'd be highly effed off.

Two - By bike I am thinking motorcycle. It is stupid to ride a motorcycle without a helmet. Especially in SA when most people don't give two tosses about bike riders.

Three - See above. Stupid.
