This is ridiculous

I think Microsoft downloads are served by Akamai's content delivery network, so they are local and fast.
Are you shure?
I'm using programm UOTrace (try it - very handy!). Polling telkom site (local!) show 20% packet loss and ping 25-1300ms.

Unfortunately many routers are configured to give priority to "real" traffic and drop ICMP when necessary., or sometimes altogether.
This makes it difficult for us to rely on the results of ping and traceroute.

bought a 2+1 again:mad: testing at work. while watching it download i saw it hit 635KB/s. but this is in bellville/tygervalley land. will test at home again. im sure it will be fine. but the problem seems to come when you buy the 60+60. thats a bloody expensive test!! should have a roaming 60+60 test sim. now that would be handy...

Not right statement!
I'm got 3 different SIM - 60+60, 10G contract and 2+1.
All of them behaviour in the same manner.

Tested with 2 different routers and direst connection to PC - the same results.

Valid point. I think in case of 8ta ping spikes up to 1.5s are also linked to the normal browsing experience. Pictures are partially loaded, need hit reload button to get it loaded fully.

Can't waste money on the 60+60 if its not going work. Need the spare cash.

After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally managed to do a speedtest this evening. Check this out: 441ms ping and 0.06Mb/s download speed! Way to go, 8ta! Brings back fond memories of 1992 ...

Seriously, 8ta should advertise their service as Boredband rather than Broadband: "A connection so staggeringly slow you'll need to take up a fast-paced hobby, like sewing, to pass the time while you're waiting for web pages to load!" Grandfather sitting in his chair by the fire: "Oh, yes, I remember well the day I clicked on that link! Your grandmother hung herself while we were waiting for it to load."

Same here. Shocking but not unusual for this time of day

This is exactly my problem. I got a call from Telkom (8ta) this morning asking if I still have problems because they want to send a technician to me. I told the consultant that I am not the only person with the same problem so a technician at my place will not make a difference. Also told him that more and more people are complaining so eventually 8ta will have to fix whatever has gone wrong since 30 April 2012. So for now I sit tight and wait for more people to start complaining about the lag and half page loads.

Speak for yourself. I had problems, technicians were in my place and since then problems are less severe and generally quite acceptable.

Agree, same experience and in CPT

Something happened!
Now (10:40) speed is 9M down and 2M up. Ping 50ms. Stable.
I pray that it will stay like this.....

OK! Now it is slower...

Its 3g so it will vary. I was watching yesterday and it was bouncing up and down. The only stable connection that I've seen is adsl. Always 105kb/s with telkom. As long as it bounces backup during the day. Think I got over 600kb yesterday at work. To get that during the day is just insane.

Hi dje!

A technician has an appointment with you today to come and take readings and investigate.

Regards,
Social Media Team

dje keep us in the loop please....

Two Telkom technicians came by about 30 minutes ago. They measured my signal and said it's strong and that there are no obvious problems at this end. I showed them my (recently very chequered) speedtest.net history. They said that they would send their findings, including my speedtest.net results, to their tech department, who would probably look at the problem in 24-48 hours and try to find out what's going on.

Oh, they also said that a number of other people in "this area" (I'm not sure whether they meant Cape Town or the Southern Suburbs or just Bergvliet) have recently complained about the same problem ...
