Chrome isn't installed by default but that doesn't stop people from installing it. Frankly, the other OSes just aren't as good as Win10 and that is why they have taken any market share.

1. It's no good for gaming <---- This is a big disadvantage.
2. It's not as user friendly and I find myself on stackoverflow for things that should just work.

How exactly does W10 suck? I have had zero issues with it at all. Even those plagued releases a few months ago did nothing to my machine.

Plenty of people never had issues with Vista as well.

They never said that. What they said was that Windows 10 was the last current version of Windows. Why people ran with this to mean that there will never be a next version of Windows I don't know.

All I want is all settings to be uniform and in one place. Screw the ancient ou toppies wanting their "control panel" .

All I want is for a non-button design. Use the proper design for the proper application and not this tablet interface for a pc. Oh, and also allow me to manage my updates.

It has its faults but overall I've found Win10 to be a stable OS that performs well on outdated hardware.

Nobody said it wasn't stable, when it doesn't have issues and it's working. You're using the wrong criteria. And you're also not doing the proper comparison. Windows 10 has only muscled out itself. Linux has consistently gained traction especially as more and more games can run on it. Gaming will determine the dominant OS.

It wasn't bad. The main issue was with the transition from 32 to 64-bit. That broke a lot of drivers because MS's own HAL didn't implement long addresses correctly. Windows 7 is essentially Vista with a fixed HAL and a few modifications but MS had to rebrand it with a different version because of the bad reputation of Vista.

Double clicking on an .exe and installing Chrome even without admin rights is much easier than installing a whole different OS though. There's close to 15k game titles working in Linux now and it's growing daily.

You know there are no really accurate stats? If anything it's MacOS that's lost market share to both Linux and Windows. But the amount of requests for Linux games increasing over the years tells me there is an increase in the Linux for gaming market.

I'm wondering if this isn't a precursor to them labelling specific builds as EOS rather than the version itself, but its just easier to start with the version having an EOS entry for the moment while they figure out the logistics of how to do this within a version of Windows itself.
