Tips to Boost your eBucks

Because R28 a month is so much. I get a 4Mbps uncapped account, and 500MB data for my tablet each month. Those 2 alone more than makes up all the **** I do to get ebucks points. Not to mention the amount of ebucks I earn each month.
.

Now that you have put it that way it does not sound bad at all. Is that is the cumulative benefit of being on Tier 5 though (only open to Platinum holders?).

I'm not going to spend R20,000 a month just for eBucks. There are easier ways mentioned in this thread...

All our household expenses are paid on credit card except Bond and insurance. EBucks are just a cherry on top for what was our normal spending. I regard the credit card account as our one account. We do not have any other accounts.

Probably easy enough if you have a family, but I'm a single bloke and can't justify the R20,000 pm spend...

Yeah that is close to the cumulative benefit on Platinum cheque account. The free uncapped and 500MB data is bound to the cheque account ebucks reward level, so you can't get it with credit card level. On gold cheque you can get up to 80% discount on the uncapped adsl account, but still get the 500MB data for 1 mobile device.

I don't have ebucks linked to my credit card. It costs R200 a year to have ebucks linked to CC. Free to have cheque linked to ebucks. But I do pay the R28/month to have the CC in case I need it, and as a side, I get 100 points to have it linked to my cheque account.

Also normal shopping on cheque nets you 2.5% (level 5) back in ebucks vs the 1% (any level) on the credit card.

Thus taking all the above in account, I believe cheque account ebucks level trumps credit card ebucks level. I do all my purchases on my cheque account, where it used to be on my credit card.

Your list included "Active Tablet, Smartphone or Laptop contract" which is a loan.

Without that you have 1300 points a month, which will make you Level 3.

I also miss out on 300 points for the Cash@Till™ because I almost never go to Pick n Pay
An interest free loan that you are purchasing at below market price after the discount..... Instead of buying for cash.

I needed a tablet, so I bought one.....you can always put the remaining balance that you would have paid cash for into your capitec account earning interest on it in the meantime

Just having a credit card just for the sake of increasing ebuck points dont make sense. There are annual fees and other admin fees involved with a credit card. Besides the devil will always tempt you when a credit card is involved.
I need a credit card for my international car rentals, so its a moot point for me

Nothing special about a Platinum card as far as eBucks go. And as I mentioned, the maximum points for shopping on that card is 1200.
So, given that, and without taking out a loan product, how do you achieve level 5?

It might be possible if a person does the crazy things like Cash@Till™ I guess. Even more so if you have a Savings Pocket
Higher interest rate on the savings pocket, and domestic slow lounge is free. The only reasons I upgraded. The increased interest rate pays for my increased bank charges

Edit: It also increases my ebucks earn rate and I got to level 5 quicker. Which means uncapped ADSL 4mb for free, instead of paying R300+ rand to an isp

Also 15% back on shopping at checkers, petrol, airtime, electricity compaired to 7.5% on gold. Also 40% discount on vouchers on their website

I actually get so much from ebucks at this point that it would just be silly for me to change banks at this stage.

Bank charges (total) = -R180
Ebucks = 8000 = R1320 makro vouchers
7.5% off fuel (2 cars)= R225
100% discount on Fnb uncapped = R300
Dunno the amounts for checkers and airtime

So essentially I get R1500+ of stuff from my bank monthly after paying for my bank charges.

I don't fully understand the whole ebucks thing and have no real idea why I'm on level 5. We do make certain efforts to buy fuel at Engen and shop at Checkers though :)

You don't have to buy fuel at Engen, any fuel station will do. You can only pay for fuel with eBucks at Engen though.

What's torrenting like on that account? Would it be smarter to use this account for general surfing and another capped account for downloads?

Yeah , p2p is restricted. I use my Fnb for the rest of my network, streaming and regular usage for my devices. My server uses Telkom soft capped, and so use it for torrents at night. Don't see the point of torrenting during the day anyway

+1

This is how I view it as well. I receive close to eB15000 per month. Which i convert it to R2500 makro/checkers vouchers. I use it for a game and donate the rest to spca/charity.

It looks like there is a lot of confusion on the rules in this thread. Sorry, I had to skim read some of the pages so forgive me if any of this has been mentioned before.

1) Spending big is not the main way to earn points on credit card or cheque card, though it probably will be required to get you to level 5. i.e. Earning eBucks at a rate of 1 or 2% is not how people are getting 12k worth of eBucks each month.
2) Whether you go the cheque or credit card route, that depends on what your current eBucks Rewards status is, what your spend/banking behaviour is like. Then you have to see how can you change that behaviour to elevate your eBucks Rewards status and work out the points and what not and which route is going to get you to level 4 or 5 and keep you there with little effort. It will take a few months perhaps, but once you get there it's worth it.

Tinuva finds his cheque account the way to go (sounds good with free 4mbs uncapped and what not), but I am on the credit card track level 5 and it's not viable for me to change even if I wanted to.

In any event there are changes happening in October, iDOL alluded to this in another thread:
Total new way in October 2014, it's coming
And in another thread he spills some beans but nothing specific: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-Card-Fees?p=13123761&viewfull=1#post13123761

+1, different strokes for different folks.
looking forward to ?early/mid? August when we can review changes and how best to slay the eB beast - collective input will get us all that much closer to higher rewards.

I agree, if all you are interested in, is the maximum return on amount of ebucks, then either account will work, and net your around the same value.

The cheque card has 2 extra freebies, in combination with not having to use my credit card convinced me it is better. Like you, I was close to level 5 on my credit card and that is where I ad the biggest return. I changed the behaviour of my cheque account, and without spending much on it each month, managed to get it to level 5 whilst making use of the credit card for spending.

Only when it reached level 5, did I move all my spending over to the cheque card, so I haven't lost out. And that is the great thing about the cheque account, you can get it to level 5 with minimal spending on it, while 95% of your spending is on the credit card.

All that said, I am curious to see how the new 2014 October Ebucks system will work. However it does, I will do the same thing, draw up a spreadsheet with how you earn the points, and then calculate the easiest route each month to earn the Ebucks, so that I can stay on level 5. However they change it, it will be a pretty bad move to reset people's ebucks reward levels, I doubt they will do that.

Are you spending R30k a month on your card?

If they are aiming to align with PrivateClients, it will be reset, as it now becomes a monthly calc and not a rolling 12 month to determine reward levels.

It'll be month on month, so you'll have the ability to instantly go to level 5 (no more waiting for points to build up). You'll get info early August
