Tips to Boost your eBucks

As far as I am aware, that is for all FNB Cheque Accounts.
RMB works differently.

What is the maximum points you can earn with your cheque account for shopping?

I have no idea. I use a Platinum credit card. Last month over 11000 Ebucks. Annual points 21175. As I said get the right card and spend more.

Such a minimum balance is also a luxury that few could afford. It would benefit most people to rather keep the R2000 on your bond or your car finance as extra payment and your interest savings could far exceed your ebuck gains depending on the capital balance and term/month of your loan offcourse.

Agreed. The Savings Pocket has an interest rate of effectively 0%. That being said, even at at a decent interest rate, the interest will be small enough that the 300 points might make it worthwhile. I wouldn't put more than R2000 into it though

Nothing special about a Platinum card as far as eBucks go. And as I mentioned, the maximum points for shopping on that card is 1200.
So, given that, and without taking out a loan product, how do you achieve level 5?

It might be possible if a person does the crazy things like Cash@Till™ I guess. Even more so if you have a Savings Pocket

What level are you now and how you earn your points currently?
Cash@ till isnt crazy. You get used to it. You learn to draw cash whenever you are in a Shoprite or Checkers or Pick n Pay. Especially if you go there to pay your Telkom & Municipal bills in order to up your spending rate. As long as this amount drawn at tills exceed whatever you might draw at ATM's later on youre good to go.

The problem is I never shop at Pick n Pay or Shoprite or Checkers. Going to one just to draw money if fairly crazy

No max is 2000 on platinum. Check the EBucks site. Also I believe that it is per card. If two cards are linked to the account the spend can be doubled.

Sorry you are correct on points 2000 is the EBucks level.

Just called them, apparently the R5 roadside assistance option is no longer an option. It only comes with a petrol card linked to a credit card. Can anyone confirm?

I see you can get 100 points per month for having an active (whatever that might mean?) Fluid account. And if you have a minimum balance of R500 in that account you dont pay monthly banking fees. If you dont its somethin like R24 per month.

This is a level 5 points breakdown

Use balance correctly - 200
No Cash - 200
Up to date payments -250
Do not Exceed limit -200
Accept Marketing - 50
Update details - 50 (600 per annum)
online bank - 50
Use facilities - 50

Gives 1050

Spend R20000 per month and you get 600

You need 18500 or 1542 per month for level 5 this gives 1650 Most items are fixed behaviour. Only spend can be manipulated.

I think that the major problem most people face is managing the credit limit and up to date payments. These are over 48 months to maximise the 450 points available.

To simplify it, this is the minimum what you need to earn level 5 points in a year.

  • There is no loans or credits or overdrafts
  • You only need to spend between R2500 - R5000 on your card a month
  • You don't have to jump through any hoops.

Very helpful breakdown of what you need to get to level 5. Thanks for posting.

I can achieve most of the above. I wont take the smart device though, will move me off the Fee Saver option.

Also important to note, you can get all of these things sorted now, you will still need to wait a couple months to accumulate the points to move up the levels.

I'm not going to spend R20,000 a month just for eBucks. There are easier ways mentioned in this thread...

I also don't know whether having a credit card and having to pay the monthly fees associated with it (over and above the cheque account fees) can truly justify the 100 points you get a month.

Can justify that, would have had a CC anyway. I keep it around as an emergency option for life's little surprises. Also, keep a positive balance on your CC and you'll earn interest on it...

Matches up the same as me essentially, except I don't do the Cash@Tills thing or the Savings Pocket.

The R5 raodside assistance is specific to your Cheque account. I phoned the platinum call center and they added it without any issues. That said, I cancelled my petro card linked to my credit card in the same call before asking for the R5 roadside assistance. Thus it definitely still exist. I also used it last month to get my car unlocked after locking myself out.

I also don't know whether having a credit card and having to pay the monthly fees associated with it (over and above the cheque account fees) can truly justify the 100 points you get a month.
Because R28 a month is so much. I get a 4Mbps uncapped account, and 500MB data for my tablet each month. Those 2 alone more than makes up all the **** I do to get ebucks points. Not to mention the amount of ebucks I earn each month.

Also, I see a lot of misinformation...or rather people having the wrong idea in this thread.
