Lol.. had to google to see where that is. I'm gonna have to brave City of Joburg

Our municipality does not currently offer prepaid electricity through Online Banking. You have to buy electricity with cash from certain vendors. Does anyone have know if there is anything I can do to get them to offer it through Online Banking?

Have you checked Easypay (they support a lot) then you'll get 4% I think at RL5 (platinum).

Another thing to note is that at least one estate/complex in Durbanville somehow managed to run their own prepaid meters for all their units. So outside the estate you can use FNB for electricity, but inside you are forced to buy from the gym where you can only buy during business hours and pay what they charge.

We don't stay there anymore so I don't care anymore, but I can't imagine that that is a legal setup.

So if you do install prepaid, maybe ask the installer for the meter number and test it beforehand with R10.

Edit: You also could not buy from Spar or any other normal place, so this is not really an FNB topic.

@Aessa, Waterstone in Century City has the same or similar prepaid setup. You have to buy from the machine that is in between the West and East complexes...

Still trying to pluck up the courage to go to the municipal offices to find out what's involved in switching to prepaid so I can get the 15% on electricity.

Gave City Power a call, expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised. Call was answered almost immediately and spoke to nice friendly young lady that gave me all the info.

  • Take proof of residence (Rates bill)
  • Take ID Book
  • Fill out forms
  • Pay R2500
  • Wait a month while they install

If only it can all go as smoothly as this phonecall... but I'm guessing there will be snags.

So I found this at Makro: http://www.makro.co.za/baby-toys-and-entertainment/ps3-500gb-action-racing-bundle-289609EA for R5000.
Am I right in saying that if I am on level 5 for example, I can buy the Makro vouchers at 40% discount from the eBucks store, and therefore only pay R3000?

As far as I know, the discount only applies if you purchase your voucher using eBucks.

So let's say you purchased a R5000 voucher using R2500 of cash and R2500 of eBucks.

I think (and I could be wrong) that would still pay R2500 cash anyway, but you would get a discount on your R2500 in eBucks.
