The 10-90 percent utilisation on the gold CC account, how exactly is that calculated? Is is as a average utilisation over the month, calculated on a specific date or you need to stay in the parameters regardless?

lets say for arguments sake i have a 10K limit on my card and need to swipe for 11k, I transfer 11k into the account taking me into a positive balance then swipe, i have fallen out of the 10-90% band going temporarily to a 0% utilisation, do i lose the points for the month. Conversely, if I swipe and use 9.5k of my available account balance that takes me to 95% utilisation.

-snip-

The rule says "Use between 10% and 90% of your credit limit during a calendar month
Your maximum budget and/or straight balance is/are taken into consideration when calculating your credit limit usage on your FNB Gold Credit Card.
"

Using you example my interpretation is; make sure that at some point during the month you were at -R1000 for your credit card balance. Ensure that you swiped for at least R1000. Ensure you didn't allow your balance to become less than -R9000.

Transferring 11k into the ccard account to give you a positive balance for a bit is ok. Reaching -R9500 is not ok.

Disclaimer: I'm not privy to the inner workings of how their rules might actually work.

The R3 fee was on the CC (I transferred from CC to Cheque, I then made the EFT from my Cheque account which didn't attract any fees).
The R3 is the least of your worries. Why transfer 10k out of your credit card? Assuming a negative balance, you will be paying interest immediately on it. You will pay R5+/- per day in interest charges until you settle all amounts swiped and transferred out of your ccard up to the point after you transferred the 10k out of there.

To my main question though - is my method of keeping my CC account "topped up" by transferring funds from my Cheque account when the balance nears the limit a bad idea, and rather have an autopayment setup that pays balance monthly?
Topping up like that is fine. Setup an autopayment as well to settle the full amount owing. If you paid amount manually then it should take that into account when it does the autopayment, so it may not even fire off if you paid an amount equal to or greater than what was owing upon your last statement date.

I'm worried about this in terms of eBucks but mostly in terms of attracting interest on the account.

Thanks
Yeah, see above.

So if I pay my Telkom account via Easypay online will the debit order that usually happens not happen for that month?

It will, you need to update the payment method online if you didn't already. If you already done that (change from Debit Order to CASH), and the debit order didn't go off, then you are safe.

Never been able to make that change.

So I just pay it by card the moment the invoice comes in, then the debit order never happens.

New rules and pricing guide should be this week?

I enquired about this and received the following response:

"Kindly be advised the earn rules are subject to change as of 1st July 2016. Please note communication will be sent out as well as the eBucks website updated accordingly, by the end of the first week of June 2016."

normally not too much worried about this, but does someone have a rough timeline on how the changes are implemented?

eg :

new changes effective 1 July.
then i adjust my spend habits from 1 july onwards?
and get assigned a new rewards level 1 August, and rewards calculated on the July spend?

Yup same here too. City of Cape Town and Telkom bill paid 1 transaction.

Hi,
I stopped doing 1 transaction for all of these as i did it one Friday afternoon and it timed out. I was then in no mans land, and on hold on the EasyPay call center for an hour. Looked like my account was debitted 2grand for 2 accounts, yet only the one account was paid on the EasyPay site.
IE - FNB said i had paid EasyPay, and EasyPay said that i hadn't. And then it was a fight with Easy Pay to get it sorted. It took a day or 3 to get everything settled. But - Talk about a painful experience. From then - i do seperate payments for my Rates and for Telkom. Takes an extra 30-60seconds, but haven't had issues since.

Just my 2 cents...

Exact same thing happened to me, but instead of calling anyone I just waited it out :) and by the end of the business day the transaction had reversed and I could redo the payment.
So yes, I also pay Telkom and CoJ as seperate EasyPay transactions

Where do you find the Telkom easypay number? My accounts don't have any easypay details, just some crazy long Telkom account number
