Holiday places in SA is just ridicules in peak season. Locals can't afford to go on holiday in peak season. Camping FTW!!
An in SA you can double the advertised room rate if your wife or partner joins you because they bill on a "per person" basis.
I have worked and lived in many countries and never came across hotels abroad that have the BS "per person" billing - its a fixed room rate regardless of your wife or partner joining you.

And those so-called cheap flights you refer to: yes they are cheap, if you book months in advance. Book them 2 weeks in advance, and it is the same or even more expensive than booking a flight ftom CPT to JHB in SA also 2 weeks in advance.

They request how many people will be staying but the rate is for the room not per person.

Thanks but I think I know what this means "The above prices are in double room per person, per night, half board daily" which is what the hotel just quoted me for a room in Cyprus.
Protea hotels are suppose to be affordable for the average person, its the equivalent of the holiday inn over here.I'm from Cape town so I know how expensive it is to stay in the centre of the city, yet in Europe its far cheaper.
I'm flying to Spain in next week, just recently booked my flight and it comes up to £80 return and I found that expensive.

My most recent trip to the US (Pittsburgh) last month we (wife and I) stayed in the Marriott hotel and it was the same room rate as my colleague that was on his own (in the same class of room).
I'm in the UK now and we are paying a fixed room rate.

Doing a search on hotelsearch.com I can see in madrid alone 187 (all results) hotels are pricing at per room/per night...
Not sure where you booking your hotels in europe where they charging you per-person as I havnt come accross it.

Thought its may be cyprus that do their pricing like that but doing a quick easyhotel search shows they do per-room rates (double/single).Not the south african way of same room but because you have a extra person, you pay more.
