The Olympics is not really a valued tournament in the soccer hierarchy and so the teams would send mostly B and C teams if it were open to all (this would diminish the value of the tournament and look bad).

As an example, France selected mainly unknown youngsters and veterans who have no chance of ever being selected to the senior team again to their squad. Gignac who scored a hat-trick against SA has not played for the senior French team since 2016 and at 35, has no chance of ever playing again.

They could have easily sent their fringe players but chose not to.

and then the shortest of the lot which is the odd one out... 1.75m
 
Bet on Tatjana Schoenmaker (what a surname) to have an upset victory over current champ Lily King in the 100m breast stroke. Unfortunately too early for me to watch live...

Le Clos won the butterfly semi final and is on to tomorrow's final which i just saw is @3:40am :rolleyes: that sucks.

Yeah great effort and her main event is the 200m so maybe she can bring home a gold. Impressed with Chad only sneaked into the semi's with the slowest time then won his semi

Well he didn't give his all when he sneaked through. He said he was just taking it easy to try and finish 2nd or 3rd. A bit overly confident
 
Final in 5 minutes for the surfing competition final. Completely unexpected for Bianca Buitendag to be in the final! Young lady from the Strand in Cape Town.
 
Yeah no it's over. Moore the better surfer today.

2 silvers for SA now :)
