I think its testament to the troubling times we live in.

Lack of sponsorships private and public, political interferences, less than ideal training facilities etc etc.

Im not surprised the surfer medalist announced her retirement. Probably lives in her folks basement bumming of R350 grant because there is no money in the sport locally. Just makes you think how insane her (amd others) performances really are.

She actually is a pro surfer. She has done fairly well so I doubt she needs to live in a basement.
Besides...how many white people do you know that get that R350 grant.

Yes. We have a sporting culture and sport is only fun if you win or if you're at least competitive.

Losing is disappointing.

Ayy, Kosovo has two gold medals. That country is 13-years old.

Realistically, Akani and Wayde are out last hopes for medals after that joke performance from the 7s team yesterday.

I know getting there is an achievement itself, but considering its the biggest team we have ever sent to an Olympics, its all a bit flat for a country that is quite in to its sports.
 
I bet Chad will win gold in the 100m :p
 
Forgot about boring golf. We have a chance to get medals there as well

Expected the Blitzbokke to do far better than they did to be honest. And Chad Le Clos.
For the rest: sailing, waterpolo and even hockey are so under-reported and hardly shown in RSA that it's tough to get behind them or follow them. Swimming is badly run in RSA too.

It could be worse...the marathon is still coming up (ugh hell, I like watching and playing golf so getting that out there).

R350 is for the economically disadvantaged. She is white and a pro surfer. Stupid statement to make about her.
Put them all together.
