Too white to study medicine

The point is they shouldn't have to. Especially not in medicine. Don't we have a big shortage of doctors in the first place?

Exactly. If I was a black person, I'd be extremely offended by policies like this. The implications are really not nice. But I expect the usual reaction from the usual suspects again, probably followed by a thread deletion. Print Screen is your friend.
 
I have a neice who is very intelligant, multiple A's, dux of her school but she can't get into medicine ( wants to study optometry ). The one varsity will only give her a answer by 16 Jan, she's applied elsewhere and been accepted but she would rather go to another as its logisticly better for her and the family.

I look at her and wonder why she can't get accepted.
 
Its all about race in SA, the whole world come to think about it. Its a biological imperative to get rid of other race groups, either through exclusion or breeding.

Guys I think we should all just accept the inevitable. We are not welcome in our own country. We have two choices. Move or just let the status quo be, the third option namely creating a private institution that takes people out of merit and trains them is simply too expensive. Plus the gov would most likely brand it as racism and place a moratorium on hiring anyone that graduated there.

There is no longer place for us here. Claiming the oposite is just denialism...

My sister has three degrees, one of them an honors in psych, she has applied for her masters five times already, gave up and is now working as a human resource manager, what a joke!!
 
I suppose when you are on the "victim" side as most of you seem to be, it is difficult to accept. The reality though in this country is that even so long after transition most black kids do not get a shot at proper schooling and most of them will not be able to compete with their well off white counter parts. Remember that it goes beyond money, most times white kids even when not well off are able to get into a much better school than a rural/township kid. It is of course, the governments fault because some of the faults with the black schooling system is a direct result of indulging SADTU a little too much at the altar of political expediency.

If you don't intervene 9/10 medical school entrants will be white/indian. Remember that even kids who do well at rural school aren't able to match the kids who are from better schools because those kids are able to take 7/8 subjects because the schools allow it.

Yeah - but this is medicine we're talking about. So if you are quite happy that the 'less than brightest' get to be your doctor, I hope you have a very healthy life.

We've already seen what happens when people too stupid to pass woodwork become engineers and build bridges in Limpopo.

And what happens when the sheeple cotton onto this little gem. Rather see a white doctor becuase you are guaranteed that they know what they are doing. See a black doctor and maybe he was just one of those there to make up the numbers.
 
Gifted kid => studies ==> valuable asset for country ==> more money for them fatcat oinkers

Gifted kid => denied studies ==> goes overseas, is valuable asset for another country ==> less money for them fatcat oinkers.

I agree, but they still work bloody hard to achieve 6-8 distinctions did not receive it on a silver platter. The government is not doing enough to better schools in the townships, and allow teachers to do whatever they like without any consequences.

We need doctors in this country, is does not matter if they are white Indian Xhosa etc.

The requirements are still very high. A black kid might get 6 distinctions, but is trumped by the 10 distinctions white kid from a better school, simply because the other had access to better education, not that they have better brains.
 
My son was accepted at UFS for medicine two weeks ago, he applied at all the universities hoping to get into Stellies, but he didn't. - perhaps he was accepted at UFS because his dad(eng), uncle (eng) niece(med) and two aunts(med) all studied there.

We are over the moon that he was accepted and yesterday he asked me to drive up to Bloem with him in January (I will fly back), so I look very forward to a little roadtrip with my son.

No matter what obstacles you put into our path, we will continue our pace towards progression and civilisation - it is our culture.

Actually no, black kids do not need 6 distinctions to get into medicine. And to give you an idea, if you have much lower than a 90% average, if you're white, you're not definitely getting into the course. My wife's class was basically made up out of most of the top 100 matriculants in the province, which is evidence that the standards are stellar for the one party but not so much for the other.

I am not suggesting you need 6* to get in. I am just making an example, point being black kids are still required to make minimum entry requirements but of course they do get preference. That said, the top matric pupils in the country ought to be able to get into any varsity in the country. I know that most of the top varsities offer scholarships to such students whether they be black or white and allow them the choice of anything they want to study.

Nope - there is no test that is done on whether the brains are better.

There is a ratio involved and we are not giving the opportunities to the best.

Again, even if the 'access to better education' is true - I still don't want a doctor that is there because enough people chanted 'Give him another chance'.
