TopTV Bugs and Peeves

Does anyone actually know what the current decoder would be capable of doing with some firmware/software upgrades?

I can assure you that dual-view functionality will NOT be possible with this current hardware.

I can also confirm that although PVR functionality IS possible it's only for rewinding/pausing capabilities. You will not be able to record a different channel.

HD is not going to be possible and neither is VoD.

Can't really at the price they are giving these things away for expect anything else.

I am guessing that for them to break even with me for my decoder/install will be at least 3 months, probably more.
 
Guys I'm so angry this weekend did not switch on my decoder once cause the whole this was just blank now what do i do now cause i mean what the use of paying TOP TV if I cant watch anything in peace?

I think so too, thats why they incorporated the USB slot, to add a hdd and also noticed thats why they have the progress bar on every channel...must be for pvr functionality.
Now if they could just get the EPG right for their very own channels ie Top Movies, +2, +24, Top One and so on....or am I the only one with this?
The rest of the EPG is up to date now, just those channels aren't....

Last nite though, I experience a strange situtation on certain channels, from channel Top Movies - Top One, (including SABC 1,2,3, Etv) there wasnt any picture on these channel, but break up audio too as well, i ended up watching Bafana Bafana via Analogue from 20:15 this started happening, and went to the bed nothing had change, but when i woke up this morning, all the channel were ok, any1 had a same experience last nite????
 
Hows the picture in rain (though there has been not much rain lately).
I am getting mine installed today.

Had the exact same experience last night on the movie channels. After about 2 minutes mine came right, though
 
Had the same thing, Unplugged, waited a few minutes plugged back in again (looked at the initialising screen for about 5 minutes) and all was fine again.
 
Someone reported some lip-synch problem earlier in the month. Have these been fixed?

I think it was on saturday when we suddenly had a major downpour in cape town and my dstv decoder lost connect 1st and about a minute later my TopTv did too, TopTV came out tops, restored picture in less than a minute whereas DStv took about 6 minutes
 
I must say, just having TopTV is bliss for me. I have no more issues than I've had with DSTV which was frequent and unexplained rebooting.

Well i had constant problems with DSTV. Rain was a no go. even on a clear day, pic should just become jumbled. Had to reboot (rescan did not work) a couple of times. And this is on 100% signal.
To Toptv. So far good service.
Bought Decoder on Thursday and sms. They called me on Friday. I only called a couple on installers on Mon. Installed on Tuesday - this dish is quite big (BTW: most installers told me to wait weeks, one even said i have to pay if Toptv does not within 2 weeks).
Phoned today to activate - 3 min wait. Though i am not at home, my wife says its working.
 
eish guys having the biggest problem hey paid on time as usual but I dont have no picture at all on the first channels called them now to report the guy I spoke too Mbuso was also not very clued up I'm not a dripping panty but sometimes people can really make u lose hope..............missed about a weeks worth of Entourage and also a few movies I wanted to watch..............any suggestions?
 
The Plot Thickens

It seems everyday has its own set of problems with my TopTV.

Apart from the issues that I've already mentioned, I also had the problem of absolutely no picture on Monday night on SABC's and e-TV (although it was sorted by Tuesday morning).

This morning (Wednesday 2 June), I saw that I could not programme anything from the horizontal bar as I normally do because there was no detail of what was on. This was on most of the channels. A few had detail though.

Seeing that these problems get resolved relatively quickly, I hope it is because they are improving the system.

Does anyone know?

I too noticed the EPG went down last night, well early morning just after midnight, but its working now.

I too hope they are making improvements.
 
Picture & Sound

These have been one of my biggest peeves with TopTV:

TopTV's picture is a poor attempt at optimising a widescreen (16:9) broadcast for 4:3 ratio aspect TV (older TVs i.e. not HD, LCD or Plasma screens). I noticed that when I watch BBC on TopTV the people look a lot slimmer and that the picture is a full screen instead of one that is narrower horizontally leaving one inch gaps on the top and at the bottom of the picture. I really feel like I am watching some old Karate movie (add the lipsync and - viola).

The other issue is that of sound. Certain channels have higher volume than others and certain programmes have more volume than others. Take Fox News Channel for instance. It has very low sound. Then take TopOne: much higher sound. This means that you have to change the volume when you change channels. Also, TopTV advert's sound is a lot more exaggerated than any other programming almost to the point of annoyance.

TopTV, please address these issues.

Does anyone else experience these issues?
 
Dont think it beats my problem.
3 weeks now & still not activated.
Been calling speaking to "whoever", still no help.
Worked for 10 minutes then died, that was 6 days ago.
From TopTV operator "It will be fixed with the next hour", still waiting.
